SUNCOAST COMMUNITIES BLOOD BANK (SCBB) PROVIDES A RELIABLE SUPPLY OF QUALITY BLOOD PRODUCTS AND SERVICES TO 10 HOSPITALS AND HEALTH CENTERS IN FOUR COUNTIES. IN FISCAL YEAR 2021, SUNCOAST COMMUNITIES BLOOD BANK COLLECTED 33,082 UNITS OF ALLOGENEIC RED BLOOD CELLS AND 6,751 UNITS OF PLATLETS FROM 19,038 DONORS. OVER THE COURSE OF THE YEAR, SUNCOAST COMMUNITIES BLOOD BANK SUPPLIED OVER 43,319 BLOOD PRODUCTS TO THE PATIENTS IN LOCAL HOSPITALS. THIRTEEN TESTS (11 FOR INFECTIOUS DISEASES) ARE PERFORMED ON EACH UNIT OF DONATED BLOOD PRODUCTS. IN ADDITION, SCBB PARTICIPATES IN MONONUCLEAR CELLULAR THERAPY, A TREATMENT PROGRAM FOR LATE STAGE PROSTATE CANCER. SUNCOAST COMMUNITIES BLOOD BANK IS FULLY-ACCREDITED BY THE AABB (FORMERLY THE AMERICAN ASSOCIATION OF BLOOD BANKS), EXCEEDS ALL STANDARDS SET FORTH BY THE FDA (FOOD AND DRUG ADMINISTRATION) AND IS CERTIFIED BY CLIA (CLINICAL LABORATORY IMPROVEMENT AMENDMENTS). WE ARE PROUD OF THESE ACCREDITATIONS AND CERTIFICATIONS BECAUSE IT MEANS THAT OUR BLOOD BANK RANKS AMONG THE BEST IN THE NATION WHEN IT COMES TO QUALITY AND SAFETY.SUNCOAST ADDED A CONVALESCENT PLASMA PROGRAM IN APRIL 2020. THIS WAS IN RESPONSE TO COVID AND THE NEED FOR THIS PLASMA TO TREAT COVID PATIENTS.SUNCOAST ALSO BECAME ONE OF THE NATIONAL SURGE SUPPLY CENTERS (SSC) FOR THE US TO STORE CONVALESCENT PLASMA (CCP) FROM OTHER BLOOD CENTERS IN THE US AND SHIP THESE UNITS TO HOSPITALS OR BLOOD CENTERS IN NEED ACROSSS THE US.SUNCOAST CREATED A NEW BLOOD DONOR PROGRAM CALLED THE CONCIERGE "AT HOME" DONOR PROGRAM WHERE WE DROVE A MINI VEHICLE TO THE DONOR'S HOUSE SO THEY COULD DONATE WITHOUT LEAVING THEIR PREMISES. WE ACQUIRED 3 VEHICLES AND A SMALL TEAM TO OVERSEE THIS NEW PROGRAM.
