ADULT EDUCATION: THE FLORENCE MELTON SCHOOL OF ADULT JEWISH LEARNING IS A SOPHISTICATED, TEXT-BASED PROGRAM DEVELOPED BY THE MELTON CENTRE AT THE HEBREW UNIVERSITY OF JERUSALEM THAT EXPLORES CENTURIES OF JEWISH TRADITIONS, HISTORY, THEOLOGY AND ETHICS, IN AN EXCITING, PLURALISTIC AND THOUGHT-PROVOKING CLASSROOM ENVIRONMENT.
THE LEO MARTIN MARCH OF THE LIVING: THIS ONCE-IN-A-LIFE-TIME JOURNEY TAKES TEENS FROM MIAMI TO POLAND AND ISRAEL FOR A TWO-WEEK INTENSIVE HERITAGE TRIP. STUDENTS LEARN ABOUT THE EIGHT HUNDRED YEAR HISTORY OF JEWS IN POLAND AND VISIT THE DEVASTATING SITES OF THE HOLOCAUST. TO AUGMENT THE EXPERIENCE, STUDENTS ATTEND EXTENSIVE PRE-TRIP LEARNING SESSIONS AND ARE ACCOMPANIED BY SURVIVORS WHO SHARE THEIR PERSONAL STORY. THE TRIP CULMINATES IN AN UPLIFTING VISIT TO ISRAEL.
TEACHER FRINGE BENEFITS: THIS PROGRAM RECOGNIZES THE IMPORTANT ROLE QUALITY TEACHERS PLAY IN SHAPING THE FUTURE OF OUR JEWISH YOUTH. IT PROVIDES ADDITIONAL FINANCIAL INCENTIVES AS MATCHING FUNDS IN THE 403(B) TEACHER RETIREMENT PLAN AND FINANCIAL ASSISTANCE TOWARD EVER-RISING HEALTH INSURANCE COSTS. THERE ARE OVER 400 TEACHERS ENROLLED IN THE RETIREMENT PLAN AND AS MANY RECEIVED HEALTH INSURANCE BENEFITS.
