THE COALITION RECEIVED COMPREHENSIVE HOUSING COUNSELING PROGRAM(CHC) FUNDS THROUGH THE DEPARTMENT OF HOUSING AND URBAN DEVELOPMENT (HUD),OFFICE OF HOUSING COUNSELING. IN 2021, THE COALITION WAS ALSO AWARDED HOUSING STABILITY COUNSELING PROGRAM (HSCP) FUNDS THROUGH NEIGHBORWORKS AMERICA. THESE PROGRAMS PROVIDE COUNSELING AND ADVICE TO TENANTS AND HOMEOWNERS. THE COALITION CONTRACTS WITH HUD-APPROVED HOUSING COUNSELING AGENCIES TO PROVIDE A WIDE VARIETY OF HOUSING COUNSELING SERVICES TO HOMEBUYERS, HOMEOWNERS, RENTERS AND THE HOMELESS.
THE COALITION CO-HOSTS AND FACILITATES THE NC ANNUAL HOUSING CONFERENCE WHICH BRINGS TOGETHER DEVELOPERS, LENDERS, ADVOCACY ORGANIZATIONS, SERVICE PROVIDERS, HOUSING COUNSELORS AND MANY OTHERS TO DISCUSS BEST PRACTICES AND THE IMPACT AFFORDABLE HOUSING HAS ON OUR FAMILIES, COMMUNITIES, AND ECONOMY. THE COALITION ALSO CO-HOSTS THE BRINGING IT HOME CONFERENCE, AN ANNUAL CONFERENCE FOR HOMELESS SERVICE PROVIDERS.
THE COALITION PROVIDES GENERAL ADVOCACY, EDUCATION AND PUBLIC POLICY DEVELOPMENT TO INCREASE ACCESS TO AFFORDABLE HOUSING FOR LOW-INCOME NORTH CAROLINIANS. THE COALITION IS ALSO PART OF THE NATIONAL "ENERGY EFFICIENCY FOR ALL" CAMPAIGN THAT FOCUSES ON ENERGY EFFICIENCY FOR LOW-INCOME RENTERS AND THE "OPPORTUNITY STARTS AT HOME" THAT SEEKS TO BROADEN THE SUPPORT FOR HOUSING AMONG OTHER SECTORS. THE COALITION IS ALSO ENGAGED WITH AND SUPPORTS LOCAL INDIVIDUALS AND ORGANIZATIONS ENGAGED IN TENANT ORGANIZING.
IN 2021, THE COALITION INCURRED OPERATIONAL EXPENSES RELATED TO A CONTRACT WITH THE DEPARTMENT OF PUBLIC HEALTH FOR DEVELOPING A HOUSING LANDSCAPE ANALYSIS AND WORKING ON HOUSING POLICY RECOMMENDATIONS FOR INDIVIDUALS COMING OUT OF INCARCERATION SETTINGS AND WITH SUBSTANCE ABUSE ISSUES.
