FOOD ASSISTANCE IS PROVIDED THROUGH A CLIENT-CHOICE MODEL TO PROMOTE CLIENT EMPOWERMENT AND HEALTH. CLIENTS ARE ABLE TO CHOOSE FROM FRESH PRODUCE AND MEATS, BAKERY ITEMS AND NON-PERISHABLES BASED ON HOUSEHOLD NUTRITION NEEDS AND PREFERENCES. SERVING APPROXIMATELY 200 HOUSEHOLDS PER MONTH, 191,511 LBS OF FOOD VALUED AT 331,314 WAS DISTRIBUTED TO NEIGHBORS IN NEED. AN ADDITIONAL 30,000 POUNDS OF FOOD WAS DISTRIBUTED TO OTHER NON-PROFIT ORGANIZATIONS FIGHTING HUNGER IN THE CHARLESTON COMMUNITY.
FINANCIAL ASSISTANCE AND REFERRALS ARE PROVIDED TO HELP NEIGHBORS EXPERIENCING FINANCIAL HARDSHIP, HOUSING INSECURITY AND OTHER ECONOMIC CHALLENGES. EMERGENCY ASSISTANCE WITH UTILITY, RENT AND MEDICAL BILLS TOTALING 26,490 WAS PROVIDED TO 157 HOUSEHOLDS. THROUGH PARTNERSHIP WITH THE TRIDENT UNITED WAY AMERICORPS PROGRAM, A FAMILY NAVIGATOR PROVIDES 1:1 CONSULTATIONS TO ASSIST WITH PUBLIC AND PRIVATE BENEFITS APPLICATIONS, ELIGIBILITY SCREENING AND FREE TAX PREPARATION.
