HEALTH CLINIC SUPPORTTHE COMMUNITY MEDICAL CLINIC OF AIKEN COUNTY RECEIVED ($44,705) FOR THEIR CLINIC OPERATIONS. THIS ASSISTANCE INCLUDED EQUIPMENT, SUPPLIES MEDICATIONS, AND ORGANIZATIONAL MEMBERSHIPS. A GRANT OF ($16,298.47) WAS MADE TO THE GOOD SAMARITAN MEDICAL CLINIC OF CHESTER TO PROVIDE ROOF REPAIRS TO THE BUILDING RESULTING FROM DAMAGE DURING ICE STORMS. THE FREE MEDICAL CLINIC OF NEWBERRY COUNTY, RECEIVED ($28,003.31) TO PURCHASE IT EQUIPMENT, MEDICAL EQUIPMENT, AND A FRIDGE TO STORE MEDICATIONS. A GRANT OF ($17,500) PROVIDED THE EDISTO INDIAN FREE CLINIC FUNDS TO PURCHASE A VACCINE REFRIGERATOR/FREEZER WITH MONITORING ALERT SYSTEM, ALONG WITH OTHER REGULAR MEDICAL SUPPLIES. A SEPARATE FUND TO ASSIST WITH SPECIALIZED PATIENT CARE WAS ALSO ESTABLISHED. THE SC PHYSICIANS CARE CHARITY PARTNERED WITH THE NEW MORNING FOUNDATION BY MAKING A GRANT OF ($25,000) TO PROVIDE WOMEN SEEKING CONTRACEPTION, AFTER-HOURS ACCESS TO TELEHEALTH SERVICES. THE EXPECTED BENEFIT IS AN ADDITIONAL REDUCTION IN THE NUMBER OF UNWANTED PREGNANCIES IN SC. THIS TELEHEALTH CLINIC IS OPERATED BY THE JOSEPH F. SULLIVAN CENTER AT CLEMSON UNIVERSITY.
HEALTH EDUCATION/RESEARCHCOLUMBIA INTERNATIONAL UNIVERSITY RECEIVED A GRANT TO HELP ESTABLISH A NEW NURSING PROGRAM. THE GRANT OF ($100,000) WILL FUND A/V EQUIPMENT FOR A SIMULATION LAB, AND PROVIDE TWO NURSING SCHOLARSHIPS. GRANT PAYMENT WAS MADE UPON ACCREDITATION OF ITS PROGRAM IN 2022. A SECOND GRANT OF THE BRAIN ($50,000) WAS ALSO MADE IN 2022 TO PROVIDE SCHOLARSHIPS AND PURCHASE ADDITIONAL SIM-LAB EQUIPMENT. THE BRAIN INJURY ASSOCIATION OF SC WAS GIVEN A GRANT OF ($4,000) TO PRINT BROCHURES THAT ARE INCLUDED IN TOOL KITS GIVEN TO FAMILIES CARING FOR SOMEONE WHO IS SUFFERING FROM A BRAIN INJURY. THE BROCHURES CONTAIN INFORMATION ABOUT SPECIAL RESOURCES AND SUPPORT GROUPS AVAILABLE FOR PEOPLE WITH BRAIN INJURIES AND THEIR FAMILIES. THE AMERICAN CANCER SOCIETY RECEIVED A GRANT OF ($100,000) TO BE PAID OVER TWO YEARS. THE GRANT IS BEING USED TO ENGAGE, TRAIN, AND SUPPORT (4) HEALTH SYSTEM PARTNERS IN THE 2 YEAR HPV CANCER FREE PROGRAM. PARTNERSHIP MINI GRANTS WILL BE PROVIDED TO EACH HEALTH CENTER TO INCREASE DATA CAPACITY, IDENTIFY ROOT CAUSES TO HPV VACCINATION DISPARITIES, AND TO DEVELOP, TEST, AND IMPLEMENT NEW CLINICAL PROCESSES. THE SC NURSES FOUNDATION RECEIVED A GRANT OF ($25,000) TO PROVIDE AN ENDOWED SCHOLARSHIP FOR NURSING STUDENTS IN SC.
HUMAN SERVICES AND CHILDREN'S WELFARETHE MARY SUNSHINE HOUSE RECEIVED THE SECOND INSTALLMENT ($50,000) OF A THREE-YEAR GRANT FOR ($150,000) TO BE USED WITH THE RESTORATION OF FIVE DUPLEXES, LOCATED ADJACENT TO THE SOUTHERN WESLEYAN UNIVERSITY CAMPUS. THE APARTMENTS ARE USED TO FACILITATE INDEPENDENT LIVING BY PEOPLE WHO HAVE NEURODEVELOPMENTAL/AUTISM SPECTRUM DISORDERS. THE CHAPIN WOMEN'S CLUB RECEIVED A GRANT OF ($5,520) TO PROVIDE NUTRITIOUS SNACKS FOR STUDENTS ENROLLED IN THE AFTER-SCHOOL TUTORING PROGRAM. THIS PROGRAM HAS SEVERAL STUDENTS WITH FAMILIES WHO FACE FOOD INSECURITY ISSUES. THE SC CHAPTER OF ALS RECEIVED A GRANT OF ($60,000) TO HELP PATIENTS WHO SUFFER WITH ALS, COMMONLY KNOWN AS LOU GEHRIG'S DISEASE. THESE FUNDS WILL BE USED TO MAKE SMALLER QUALITY-OF-LIFE GRANTS, AND TO PURCHASE VARIOUS DURABLE EQUIPMENT ITEMS FOR A LOANER PROGRAM. THE QUALITY-OF-LIFE GRANTS ARE FOR $1,000 EACH AND MAY BE USED TO HELP WITH PATIENT EXPENSES AND NEEDS. THE DURABLE EQUIPMENT LOANER PROGRAM INCLUDES ITEMS SUCH AS LIFT DEVICES AND SPECIAL CHAIRS REQUIRED FOR PATIENTS. ONCE THE PATIENT NO LONGER NEEDS THE EQUIPMENT, IT IS REFURBISHED AND LOANED TO ANOTHER FAMILY. A GRANT OF ($26,500) WAS MADE TO LEEZA'S CARE CONNECTION TO DEVELOP AND FURNISH ITS OUTDOOR PATIO SPACE, AND TO CREATE A WALKING TRAIL WITH NATURE-BASED ACTIVITIES. LEEZA'S CARE CONNECTION SERVES INDIVIDUALS WHO NEED A BRIEF RESPITE FROM CARING FOR THEIR FAMILY MEMBERS AND FRIENDS. THE FACILITY INDOOR SPACE IS CURRENTLY USED TO ITS CAPACITY. DEVELOPING THE OUTDOOR AREA WILL ALLOW ADDITIONAL PROGRAMMING THAT WILL ALLOW PARTICIPANTS TO BENEFIT FROM THE FRESH AIR AND SUNSHINE. VITAL AGING OF KINGSTREE RECEIVED A GRANT OF ($15,000) TO ASSIST WITH THEIR MEALS ON WHEELS AND TRANSPORTATION PROGRAMS. THESE FUNDS WERE NEEDED TO COVER INCREASED FOOD AND FUEL COSTS. THE MEALS ON WHEELS PROGRAM PROVIDES ESSENTIAL NUTRITION TO INDIVIDUALS WHO ARE NOT ABLE TO PREPARE MEALS FOR THEMSELVES. THE TRANSPORTATION ASSISTANCE OFFERS ELDERLY CLIENTS THE ABILITY TO ATTEND CONGREGATIONAL DINING EVENTS AND OTHER ACTIVITIES ACROSS 3 SENIOR CENTERS IN THE COUNTY. VISION TO LEARN RECEIVED A SECOND GRANT IN 2022 ($15,000.00). ORIGINALLY AWARDED IN 2018, THIS GRANT REQUIRED STATE LEGISLATION TO BE CHANGED BEFORE THE GRANTEE COULD BEGIN ITS WORK.
