THE PROGRAM IDENTIFIES, SCREEN, TRAIN AND PREPARE STUDENTS IN THE WAKE COUNTY PUBLIC SCHOOL SYSTEM FOR JOBS IN THE LANDSCAPING BUSINESS, PREPARE THEM AS MANGERS AND OPERATORS OF A LANDSCAPING OR JANITORIAL BUSINESS AND PROVIDE LOCAL COMPANIES WITH PROFESSIONALLY TRAINED STAFF. DESC IS COMMITTED TO PROVIDING INDIVIDUALS THE SKILLS, KNOWLEDGE AND RESOURCES TO BE COMPETITIVE IN THE JOB MARKET, TO HAVE STAYING POWER, TO BECOME BUSINESS OWNERS AND FUNCTION IN SOCIETY. OVER THE PAST FOUR YEARS DESC HAS SERVED OVER 250 STUDENTS FROM 10 DIFFERENT HIGH SCHOOLS INCLUDING STUDENTS FROM THE GOVERNOR MOREHEAD SCHOOL FOR THE BLIND AND THE LONGVIEW ALTERNATIVE SCHOOL. MANY OF OUR STUDENTS HAVE DIAGNOSIS'S SUCH AS DOWN SYNDROME, AUTISM, INTELLECTUAL DISABILITIES, DEAF, HARD OF HEARING, BLINDNESS, EMOTIONAL AND BEHAVIOR CHALLENGES, ETC. THIS YEAR WE REACHED OUT TO ADDITIONAL STUDENTS WITH BEHAVIOR CHALLENGES; TO SHOW THEM A POSITIVE PATH FORWARD.
