CRAWLEY MEMORIAL HOSPITAL, INC. D/B/A CAROLINAS CONTINUECARE HOSPITAL AT UNIVERSITY (CAROLINAS CCH AT UNIVERSITY) OPERATES A LONG-TERM ACUTE CARE HOSPITAL IN NORTH CAROLINA. CAROLINAS CCH AT UNIVERSITY OPERATES AS A "HOSPITAL WITH-IN A HOSPITAL" YET IS A SEPARATE FULLY LICENSED ACUTE CARE HOSPITAL WITH THE ABILITY TO PROVIDE INTENSIVE AND COMPLEX MEDICAL TREATMENT. A LONG TERM ACUTE CARE HOSPITAL (LTACH) SERVES THE NEEDS OF PATIENTS WITH MEDICALLY COMPLEX CONDITIONS - ESPECIALLY THOSE SUFFERING FROM MULTISYSTEM COMPLICATIONS AND NEEDING EXTENDED RECOVERY TIMES. CONDITIONS APPROPRIATE FOR AN LTACH INCLUDE TRACHEOTOMY, VENTILATOR DEPENDENT CARDIAC/CARDIOVASCULAR CONDITIONS, RENAL DISEASE, ONCOLOGY AND WOUND CARE. THE AVERAGE DAILY CENSUS WAS 14.7 PATIENTS AND THE AVERAGE LENGTH OF STAY OF THE DISCHARGED PATIENTS WAS 30.6 DAYS.
