PRESERVATION AND INTERPRETATION OF CIVIL WAR BATTLEFIELD SITES: THE INCLUDING APPROXIMATELY 6,500 ACRES OF BATTLEFIELD LAND THROUGHOUT THE SHENANDOAH VALLEY, AND 22 HISTORIC STRUCTURES. HISTORIC COLLECTIONS AND ARTIFACTS FROM THE CIVIL WAR ERA ARE PROTECTED, CARED FOR AND PRESERVED. THE FOUNDATION PROVIDES GRANTS FOR ORGANIZATIONS PARTICIPATING IN BATTLEFIELD PRESERVATION AND INTERPRETATION. THE FOUNDATION'S OFFICES ARE LOCATED ON THE SECOND FLOOR OF THE HISTORIC STRAYER HOUSE IN DOWNTOWN NEW MARKET VIRGINIA, IN THE HEART OF THE SHENANDOAH VALLEY. A CIVIL WAR ORIENTATION CENTER, SMALL GIFT SHOP AND VISITOR INFORMATION CENTER IS LOCATED ON THE FIRST FLOOR. THE FOUNDATION COORDINATES NUMEROUS VOLUNTEERS WHO ARE ENGAGED IN THE ONGOING EFFORTS. THE FOUNDATION OWNS AND OPERATES A CIVIL WAR MUSEUM IN DOWNTOWN WINCHESTER AND A VISITORS CENTER LOCATED AT THE THIRD WINCHESTER BATTLEFIELD.
