ADMINISTRATION OF THE MARYLAND CENTERS FOR CREATIVE CLASSROOMS (MCCC). WORKING IN PARTNERSHIP WITH THE MARYLAND STATE DEPARTMENT OF EDUCATION FINE ARTS OFFICE AND THE MARYLAND STATE ARTS COUNCIL, AEMS ADMINISTERS MCCC, A SERIES OF PROFESSIONAL DEVELOPMENT WORKSHOPS FOR ARTS EDUCATION TEACHERS, ARTS INTEGRATION TEACHERS, AND ADMINISTRATORS, CONDUCTED BY MASTER TEACHERS, ARTIST EDUCATORS, AND ARTISTS. THESE ARE HELD REGIONALLY THROUGHOUT THE SUMMER MONTHS, WITH ADDITIONAL TRAINING AND NETWORKING OPPORTUNITIES CONDUCTED THROUGHOUT THE ACADEMIC YEAR. AEMS ALSO PARTICIPATES IN 4 REGIONAL BRIEFINGS WITH THE FINE ARTS SUPERVISORS AND AN ANNUAL BRIEFING WITH ALL FINE ARTS SUPERVISORS. THESE FUNDS ALSO SUPPORT THE MARYLAND FIRST LADY'S ART EXHIBIT INSTALLATION AND EVENT PLANNING.
MAIN- THE AEMS MARYLAND ARTS INTEGRATION NETWORK (MAIN) PROVIDES PROFESSIONAL DEVELOPMENT OPPORTUNITIES TO EDUCATORS WHO SEEK TO IMPLEMENT ARTS INTEGRATION TECHNIQUES INTO THEIR INSTRUCTIONAL PRACTICES. COLLABORATING WITH ARTS INTEGRATION SPECIALISTS, AEMS OFFERS PROFESSIONAL DEVELOPMENT EXPERIENCES THAT EXPLORE CONNECTIONS BETWEEN DIFFERENT ARTS DISCIPLINES AND OTHER ACADEMIC SUBJECTS. FY21 MAIN EVENTS INCLUDED A SERIES OF VIRTUAL ARTS INTEGRATION SEMINARS CALLED: "DRAMATIC MOVES! ELA, MATH, AND SCIENCE COME TO LIFE THROUGH DRAMA AND DANCE," CONDUCTED OVER A FOUR-MONTH SPAN (JANUARY 12, 2021, FEBRUARY 6, 2021, MARCH 2, 2021, APRIL 10, 2021). PARTICIPANTS WHO ATTENDED ALL FOUR SESSIONS AND COMPLETED ALL ASSIGNMENTS RECEIVED 1 MSDE CONTINUING PROFESSIONAL DEVELOPMENT CREDIT.
A-REALL - A-REALL (ANTI-RACIST EDUCATORS THE ARTS LEARNING LAB) IS A COLLABORATIVE PROFESSIONAL LEARNING COMMUNITY BETWEEN AEMS AND THE MSDE FINE ARTS OFFICE FOR ARTS EDUCATORS, TEACHING ARTISTS, AND ARTS INTEGRATION CLASSROOM TEACHERS COMMITTED TO ANTI-RACISM IN LEARNING SPACES (JANUARY 2021-JUNE 2021). COHORT MEMBERS MET BIMONTHLY AND COMPLETED ARTS-BASED ASSIGNMENTS TO SYNTHESIZE THEIR LEARNING ABOUT LEARNING AND RECONCILING HISTORY AND THE ROOT CAUSES OF EDUCATIONAL AND ART WORLD DISPARITIES, WORKING COLLABORATIVELY TO ADDRESS PROCEDURES, POLICIES, AND PRACTICES THAT LACK CULTURAL COMPETENCY, DEVELOPING TEACHING AND LEARNING RESOURCES FOR THE FIELD, AND DEVELOPING FACILITATION SKILLS FOR BRAVE DIALOGUE ABOUT RACE WITH STUDENTS AND STAKEHOLDERS. PARTICIPANTS WHO ATTENDED ALL SESSIONS AND COMPLETED ASSIGNMENTS RECEIVED A STIPEND AND UP TO 3 MSDE CONTINUING PROFESSIONAL DEVELOPMENT CREDITS (DEPENDING ON ATTENDANCE AT ADDITIONAL OPTIONAL EVENTS).
ARTS EDUCATION ANTI-RACIST SYMPOSIUM - ON SATURDAY, NOVEMBER 21, 2020 AEMS HOSTED A VIRTUAL CONFERENCE THAT OFFERED EXPERIENCES THAT DEEPENED PARTICIPANTS' UNDERSTANDING OF ANTI-RACISM AND ABOLITIONIST TEACHING IN ARTS EDUCATION. IN ADDITION TO A KEYNOTE BY AWARD-WINNING AUTHOR DR. BETTINA LOVE, THE SYMPOSIUM INCLUDED BREAKOUTS TO APPLY ABOLITIONIST PRINCIPLES TO THE VARIOUS ARTS DISCIPLINES AND CLASSROOMS, FACILITATED BY MARYLAND ARTS EDUCATORS.
