WORKING IN PARTNERSHIPSHIP WITH THE MARYLAND STATE DEPARTMENT OF EDUCATION FINE ARTS OFFICE AND THE MARYLAND STATE ARTS COUNCIL, AEMS ADMINISTERS MCCC, SERIES OF PROFESSIONAL DEVELOPMENT WORKSHOPS FOR ARTS EDUCATION TEACHERS, ARTIST EDUCATORS, AND ARTISTS. THESE ARE HELD REGIONALLY THROUGHTOUT THE SUMMER MONTHS, WITH ADDITIONAL TRAINING AND NETWORKING OPPORTUNITES CONDUCTED THROUGHOUT THE ACADEMIC YEAR. ARTS EDUCATOR / ARTIST CAMPAIGN SCHOOL. PILOTED IN COLLABORATION WITH MARYLAND CITIZENS FIR THE ARTS MCA, THIS 6 MONTH-LONG COHORT WAS DESIGNED TO INTRODUCE ARTS EDUCATORS AND INDEPENT ARTISTS TO THE CORE CONCEPTS OF MOUNTING A LOCAL, STATE, OR FEDERAL CAMPAIGN FOR ELECTED OFFICE. THIS PROGRAM WAS DESIGNED TO EQUIP MEMBERS OF THE ARTS AND ED PROFESSIONAL ARTS ECOSYSTEM WITH THE INFORMATION NECESSARY TO WIN A SEAT AT POLICYMAKING TABLES. THE FIRST CAMPAIGN SCHOOL CONCLUDED IN EARLY 2022 WITH 10 COHORT MEMBERS. THIS IS NON-PARTISAN PROGRAM.
IN RESPONSE TO NATIONAL TRENDS AND CONVERSATIONS AAROUND RACIAL JUSTICE, AEMS HOSTS AN ANNUAL SYMPOSIUM ON ANTI-RACISM IN ARTS EDUCATION THAT DEEPENS PARTICIPANTS UNDERSTANDING OF ANTI-RACISM AND ABOLITIONIST TEACHING IN ARTS EDUCATION. IN ADDITION TO A KEYNOTE BY A PRESTIFIOUS GUEST SPEAKER, THE SYMPOSIUM INCLUDES BREAKOUTS ON RACE AND EQUITY SPONSORED, LEARNING AND HEALING AFFINITY SPACES, AND ARTS DISCIPLINE-BASED BREAKOUTS TO APPLY ANTI-RACIST PRINCIPLES TO CLASSROOM TEACHING.
