THE MISSION OF THE ACVS FOUNDATION IS TO SUPPORT THE ADVANCEMENT OF SURGICAL CARE OF ALL ANIMALS. AS AN INDEPENDENTLY-CHARTERD NONPROFIT PHILANTHROPIC ORGANIZATION, THE ACVS FOUNDATION IS DEVOTED TO THE ADVANCEMENT OF SURGICAL CARE OF ALL ANIMALS THROUGH FUNDING OF EDUCATIONAL AND RESEARCH OPPORTUNITIES FOR VETERINARY SURGICAL RESIDENTS AND BOARD CERTIFIED VETERINARY SURGEONS.

RESEARCH GRANT PROGRAM - THE ACVS FOUNDATION RESEARCH GRANT PROGRAMS PROVIDE FUNDING FOR SURGICALLY RELATED CLINICAL AND BASIC RESEACH.
CONTINUING EDUCATION SUPPORT PROGRAM - ACVS FOUNDATION PROVIDES SPONSORSHIPS TO SUPPORT AND CONGRATULATE FUTURE LEADERS IN VETERINARY SURGERY, SUCH AS OUTSTANDING SURGICAL RESIDENTS' AWARDS WHICH ENCOURAGES THE DEVELOPMENT OF CLINICALLY IMPORTANT RESEARCH AND THE DISSEMINATION OF THE RESULTS OF THESE INVESTIGATIONS, PARTICULARLY THOSE CONDUCTED BY SURGICAL RESIDENTS.
NEW DIPLOMATE OUTREACH PROGRAM - ACVS FOUNDATION PROVIDES CERTIFICATIONS FOR ACVS DIPLOMATES ON PASSING THE PHASE I SURGICAL KNOWLEDGE EXAMINATION AND PHASE II SURGICAL COMPETENCY EXAMINATION. THE TOTAL NUMBER OF ACVS DIPLOMATES IS NOW OVER 2,000 WITH APPROXIMATELY 67% SMALL ANIMAL SURGEONS AND 33% LARGE ANIMAL SURGEONS.
RESIDENT AND STUDENT AWARD PROGRAM - THE ACVS FOUNDATION PRESENTS AWARDS FOR OUTSTANDING SURGICAL RESIDENT PRESENTATIONS, POSTERS, AND PUBLICATIONS ANNUALLY AT THE ACVS SURGERY SUMMIT. THIS RECOGNITION ENCOURAGES THE CONTINUED DEVELOPMENT OF CLINICALLY IMPORTANT RESEARCH, PARTICULARLY THAT CONDUCTED BY SURGICAL RESIDENTS-IN-TRAINING.ON AN ANNUAL BASIS, THE ACVS FOUNDATION CONFERS THE STUDENT SURGICAL PROFICIENCY AWARD UPON SELECTED MEMBERS OF THE SENIOR CLASSES FROM EACH VETERINARY SCHOOL IN THE UNITED STATES AND CANADA. AT THE DISCRETION OF EACH INSTITUTION, UP TO TWO AWARDS MAY BE GIVEN, ONE FOR PROFICIENCY IN LARGE ANIMAL SURGERY AND ONE OF PROFICIENCY IN SMALL ANIMAL SURGERY OR ONE GENERAL CERTIFICATE. EACH AWARD IS GIVEN TO A SENIOR STUDENT WHO DEMONSTRATES EXCEPTIONAL APTITUDE THROUGH INITIATIVE, DIAGNOSTIC SKILL, DEXTERITY AND PERIOPERATIVE CARE OF ANIMALS UNDERGOING SURGERY.
