A NATIONWIDE WAR VETERANS ORGANIZATION DEDICATED TO PRESERVING AMERICAN MILITARY LINEAGE.

SCHOLARSHIPS: PROVIDING FINANCIAL SCHOLARSHIPS TO DESERVING DESCENDANTS, DEPENDENTS AND MEMBERS OF THE 100TH BN/442ND RCT AND JAVA MEMBERS. THE JAVA SCHOLARSHIP PROGRAM ANNOUNCEMENT IS POSTED ON THE JAVA WEBSITE AND IN THE JAVA NEWSLETTER. THE ANNOUNCEMENT IS ALSO SENT TO OTHER ORGANIZATIONS IN A PRESS RELEASE. THE SCHOLARSHIP COMMITTEE REVIEWS APPLICATIONS AND SELECTS RECIPIENTS; SCHOLARSHIPS ARE AWARDED IN JULY.


CENTRAL TO JAVA'S MISSION IS THE SPONSORSHIP OF HISTORICAL AND EDUCATIONAL PROGRAMS THAT DOCUMENT THE CONTRIBUTIONS OF JAPANESE AMERICAN VETERANS, ESPECIALLY THE NISEI IN WWII. JAVA PARTICIPATED IN THE FOLLOWING PROGRAMS FROM JULY 1, 2021, TO JUNE 30, 2022: DAY OF AFFIRMATION (FLORAL WREATH, NPS PERMIT). THE DAY OF AFFIRMATION PROGRAM WAS LIVE-STREAMED AND REACHED 1,000 INDIVIDUALS. VETERANS DAY PROGRAM (FLORAL ARRANGEMENTS, NPS PERMIT FEE, PROGRAM PRINTING) REACHED 400 INDIVIDUALS. THE MEMORIAL DAY PROGRAM ALLOWED FOR BOTH IN-PERSON AND VIRTUAL ATTENDANCE. ADDITIONALLY, JAVA PARTICIPATED IN A MEMORIAL DAY SERVICE AT THE PUNCHBOWL IN HI. THE PROGRAMS REACHED APPROXIMATELY 600 PEOPLE. THE GO FOR BROKE SPIRIT PHOTO EXHIBIT OPENED ON JUNE 9, 2022, AND RAN UNTIL JULY 22, 2022. THE EXHIBIT, WHICH WAS FREE AND OPEN TO THE PUBLIC WAS HELD AT THE JAPAN INFORMATION AND CULTURE CENTER (JICC) AND INTRODUCED VIEWERS TO THE EXPERIENCE OF THE WWII NISEI SOLDIERS' EXPERIENCE. APPROXIMATELY 400 VISITORS ATTENDED THE EXHIBIT. FINALLY, EACH MONTH JAVA SENDS OUT A NEWSLETTER, THE E-ADVOCATE, TO EDUCATE AND INFORM OVER 1,000 MEMBERS AND CONTACTS ABOUT CURRENT AND HISTORICAL MILITARY AND CULTURAL NEWS AND EVENTS.


FINANCIAL SUPPORT: JAVA WORKS TO ENCOURAGE PATRIOTISM AND NATIONAL PRIDE AMONG THE YOUNGER GENERATION AS WELL AS WORKS TO FOSTER AND MAINTAIN LIAISONS WITH OTHER VETERAN SERVICE ORGANIZATIONS (VSOS) AS WELL AS INSTITUTIONS TO EDUCATE THE PUBLIC ABOUT NISEI AND AMERICANS OF JAPANESE ANCESTRY IN WWII THROUGH DONATIONS. HOWEVER, DUE TO COVID-19, AFFILIATES' PROGRAMS SUCH AS THE ANNUAL FREEDOM WALK DURING THE CHERRY BLOSSOM FESTIVAL WERE VIRTUAL SO WHILE VOLUNTEERS WERE NEEDED, FINANCIAL SUPPORT WAS NOT REQUIRED.


LUNCHEONS: JAVA SPONSORS REGULAR LUNCHEONS TO PROMOTE FELLOWSHIP AND EDUCATE MEMBERS, FRIENDS, AND GUESTS ON IMPORTANT HISTORICAL AND MILITARY ISSUES. ONE LUNCHEON WAS HELD ON JULY 24, 2021, WITH APPROXIMATELY 35 ATTENDEES. LTC RAY ODEN, USA (RET.) SPOKE ON THE "CONTRIBUTIONS OF THE NISEI SOLDIERS IN THE SPECIAL FORCES." JAVA ALSO HELD A VIRTUAL MEMBERSHIP MEETING ON FEBRUARY 5, 2022, WHICH ALLOWED JAVA MEMBERS FROM AROUND THE NATION TO PARTICIPATE.
