ACTIVITY ONE: U.S. DEPT. OF EDUCATION/OCTAEU.S. DEPARTMENT OF EDUCATION CONTRACT IMPLEMENTING COLLEGE READINESS STANDARDS IN ADULT EDUCATION: ON SEPTEMBER 28, 2018 STANDARDSWORK WAS AWARDED A NEW FIVE-YEAR CONTRACT OF THE U.S. DEPARTMENT OF EDUCATION/OFFICE OF CAREER, TECHNICAL AND ADULT EDUCATION (OCTAE) TO CONTINUE OCTAE'S WORK IMPLEMENTING COLLEGE AND CAREER READINESS IN ADULT EDUCATION. STANDARDSWORK IS ASSISTING OCTAE IN THE NEXT STAGE OF ITS EFFORTS TO STRENGTHEN THE CAPACITY OF ADULT EDUCATORS TO IMPLEMENT COLLEGE AND CAREER READINESS STANDARDS BUT, IN AN EFFORT TO BREAK IMPORTANT NEW GROUND, FOCUSED ON ENGLISH LANGUAGE LEARNERS.
ACTIVITY TWO: CURRICULUM MATTERS AND KNOWLEDGE MATTERS CAMPAIGNSCURRICULUM MATTERS IS A PROFESSIONAL LEARNING NETWORK (PLN) OF CHIEF ACADEMIC OFFICERS (CAOS) AND OTHER LEADERS IN SCHOOL DISTRICTS THAT HAVE ADOPTED CURRICULA AND ARE COMMITTED TO SHARING THEIR LEARNING WITH THE FIELD. THE CONTENT IT PUTS OUT - IN SOCIAL MEDIA, THROUGH BLOGS, AND IN WEBINARS - HAS HELPED FUEL A GROWING NATIONAL CONVERSATION ABOUT LITERACY, INCLUDING A CALL BY EDUCATORS FOR INCREASED PROFESSIONAL LEARNING ON THE SCIENCE OF READING AND LITERACY INSTRUCTION. THE KNOWLEDGE MATTERS CAMPAIGN IS AN ADVOCACY EFFORT THAT HAS, SINCE 2017 TRAVELED THE COUNTRY TO SHOWCASE STUDENT AND TEACHER EXPERIENCES AT SCHOOLS UTILIZING A HIGH-QUALITY, KNOWLEDGE-BUILDING CURRICULUM. IN EACH OF THESE PLACES, INTERVIEWS WITH EDUCATORS AND VISITS BY THE KNOWLEDGE MATTERS SCHOOL TOUR FUELED STORYTELLING - IN BOTH TRADITIONAL AND SOCIAL MEDIA - ABOUT THE JOURNEY OF DISTRICTS TO ADOPT AND IMPLEMENT HIGH-QUALITY INSTRUCTIONAL MATERIALS.
