COMMUNITY SERVICE - THE FOUNDATION LAUNCHED A $100,000 COVID CRISIS RECOVERY INITIATIVE TO SUPPORT 10 LOCAL COMMUNITY NONPROFITS THAT WERE INSTRUMENTAL IN PROVIDING INTENSIFIED EMERGENCY SERVICES TO MARYLANDERS IN NEED AS A RESULT OF THE PANDEMIC. A NURSERY NEEDS CHARITY DRIVE WAS ALSO INTRODUCED IN 2021 TO COLLECT NURSERY ITEMS FOR LOW-INCOME FAMILIES.
PERMANENT/SUPPORTIVE HOUSING - IN 2021, THE FOUNDATION RENOVATED FOUR COMMERCIAL KITCHENS AT A COMPLEX HOUSING 32 CHRONICALLY HOMELESS INDIVIDUALS AND UNDERTOOK EXTERIOR RENOVATIONS AT AN APARTMENT COMPLEX HOUSING 76 HOMELESS FAMILY MEMBERS. ADDITIONALLY, HBCF SUPPORTED A GRAND TOTAL OF 12 LOCAL VOLUNTEER REBUILDING PROGRAMS THAT ASSIST LOW-INCOME FAMILIES THAT OWN THEIR HOMES BUT CANNOT AFFORD NEEDED REPAIRS.
TEMPORARY/TRANSITIONAL HOUSING - IN 2021, THE FOUNDATION HELPED FINISH THE BASEMENT LEVEL OF AN 18-BED FACILITY FOR YOUNG ADULT CANCER PATIENTS. WE ALSO INSTALLED A 2-ZONE ENERGY EFFICIENT HVAC SYSTEM AT A 5-UNIT FACILITY FOR HOMELESS WOMEN AS WELL AS INSTALLED DOZENS OF NEW WINDOWS AT A RETREAT CENTER FOR WOUNDED, ILL AND RECOVERING SERVICE MEMBERS.
