THE MARYLAND SHEEP & WOOL FESTIVALS PURPOSE IS TO EDUCATE THE PUBLIC ABOUT SHEEP AND WOOL. ADMISSION FOR CHILDREN IS FREE OF CHARGE. THE FESTIVAL IS ORGANIZED AND CONDUCTED BY VOLUNTEERS FROM THE SHEEP BREEDING AND FIBER ARTS COMMUNITIES. THE FESTIVAL SPANS THREE DAYS AND ATTENDANCE IS ESTIMATED IN EXCESS OF 60,000 VISITORS. THERE ARE MORE THAN 1,000 SHEEP TO ADMIRE AND SHEPHERDS THAT TEACH ABOUT 42 DIFFERENT BREEDS IN A LIVING DISPLAY. A VISITOR CAN WATCH THE CRAFT OF SHEEP DOGS NUDGING SHEEP INTO PENS, VISIT AREA CHEFS AS THEY COOK WITH LAMB, AND LEARN SOMETHING NEW AS THE FESTIVAL OFFERS CLASSES AND SEMINARS ON FIBER ARTS BEFORE AND DURING THE EVENT WEEKEND. A VISITOR CAN ALSO TASTE LAMB, TALK TO SHEPHERDS, ENJOY THE MANY PRESENTATIONS AND EXHIBITS, AND DISCOVER A MULTITUDE OF OPPORTUNITIES.
MARYLAND SHEEP SHEARING SCHOOL IS AN ANNUAL CONFERENCE HELD TO EDUCATE STUDENTS IN THE ART OF HANDLING AND SHEARING SHEEP. BOTH MEMBERS OF THE ORGANIZATION AND THE PUBLIC ATTEND THE CONFERENCE.
MARYLAND SHEEP NEWS IS A MEMBERSHIP NEWSLETTER USED TO INFORM MEMBERS OF INDUSTRY ACTIVITIES AND ALSO CONATINS INFORMATION ON UPCOMING EVENTS AS WELL AS EDUCATIONAL ARTICLES REGARDING THE SHEEP INDUSTRY.
