TO PROVIDE FUNDING AND SUPPORT FOR THE SANTA FE PUBLIC LIBRARY

THE SANTA FE PUBLIC LIBRARY RECEIVED A $15,000 NATIONAL ENDOWMENT FOR THE ARTS BIG READ GRANT. THE FRIENDS OF THE SANTA FE PUBLIC LIBRARY PROVIDED SUPPORT TO MATCH THIS GRANT. THE NEA BIG READ FEATURED BOOKS WERE INTO THE BEAUTIFUL NORTH BY LUIS ALBERTO URREA AND THE YOUTH COMPANION BOOK, DREAMERS, BY YUYI MORALES. THE LIBRARY PARTNERED WITH 28 COMMUNITY PARTNERS AND PROVIDED 44 NEA BIG READ PROGRAMS FOR ALL AGES. OVER 600 SANTA FE STUDENTS PARTICIPATED IN A PROGRAM WITH AUTHOR YUYI MORALES AND OVER 1000 BOOKS WERE PROVIDED TO THE STUDENTS. AUTHOR LUIS ALBERTO URREA PROVIDED A TALK TO OVER 250 PARTICIPANTS, AND 3 CLASSROOMS PARTICIPATED IN A CONVERSATION WITH THE AUTHOR. IN OTHER PROGRAMS, THE FRIENDS PROVIDED FUNDING FOR EARLY CHILDHOOD AND YOUTH AFTER-SCHOOL AND SUMMER READING PROGRAMS AT ALL THREE SANTA FE PUBLIC LIBRARY BRANCHES. IN 2021 THE SANTA FE PUBLIC LIBRARY OFFERED 165 VIRTUAL PROGRAMS WITH OVER 8,500 PATRONS ATTENDING. PROGRAM OFFERINGS RANGED FROM BOOKS AND BABIES CHILDREN'S STORY-TIME, TAX HELP, AUTHOR TALKS, COMPUTER PROGRAMMING, AND MORE. OVER 1,400 KITS WERE DISTRIBUTED DURING THIS TIME. THE SANTA FE PUBLIC LIBRARY PROVIDED AN 8-WEEK VIRTUAL SUMMER READING PROGRAM. UP UNTIL JUNE 30, 2021, 643 PARTICIPANTS HAD REGISTERED FOR THE PROGRAM WITH 82,215 MINUTES READ BY PARTICIPANTS. HUNDREDS OF TAKE AND MAKE CRAFT KITS PROVIDED BY THE CEN WERE DISTRIBUTED TO SANTA FE YOUTH AND 49 ONLINE OR IN-PERSON PROGRAMS, INCLUDING STORY TIMES WERE PROVIDED WITH 1,545 VIEWS OR PARTICIPANTS. TO ENTICE CHILDREN TO PARTICIPATE EACH WEEK, MAGICIANS, STORYTELLERS, PUPPETEERS & PERFORMERS PUT ON PERFORMANCES TIED TO A GENERAL READING THEME AND THE PROGRAMS WERE PROVIDED VIRTUALLY AND IN-PERSON. A MATH SUMMER READING VIRTUAL PROGRAM WAS PROVIDED TO A DOZEN CHILDREN EACH WEEK.


OTHER PROGRAM SERVICES INCLUDE SUPPORT FOR THE SANTA FE PUBLIC LIBRARY OPERATIONS, INCLUDING CONTINUING EDUCATION PROGRAMS FOR LIBRARY STAFF; DIGITAL CATALOG MAINTENANCE; SUPPORT FOR ADVANCED COMPUTER SCIENCE CLASSES; PROGRAM PUBLICITY AND OUTREACH, PROGRAM EVENT EXPENSES AND VOLUNTEER SUPPORT.


WITH GRANTS FROM THE BRINDLE FOUNDATION AND OTHERS, THE FRIENDS OF THE SANTA FE PUBLIC LIBRARY FUNDS BOOKS & BABIES IN BOTH ENGLISH AND SPANISH/BILINGUAL. THIS YEAR-ROUND EARLY CHILDHOOD READING AND ACTIVITIES PROGRAM SERVES CARETAKERS AND CHILDREN AGED SIX MONTHS TO TWO YEARS. THE FRIENDS OF THE SANTA FE PUBLIC LIBRARY ALSO PROVIDES FUNDING FOR EARLY CHILDHOOD AND YOUTH AFTER-SCHOOL AND SUMMER READING PROGRAMS AT ALL THREE SANTA FE PUBLIC LIBRARY BRANCHES. IN 2021-22, THE SANTA FE PUBLIC LIBRARY OFFERED 336 CHILDREN/YOUNG ADULT PROGRAMS WITH 7,987 PARTICIPANTS. THE FRIENDS ALSO SPONSORED A CHILD LITERACY PROGRAM WITH ITS PARTNER LITTLE HORSE LISTENER.


OTHER PROGRAM SERVICES INCLUDE SUPPORT FOR THE SANTA FE PUBLIC LIBRARY OPERATIONS, INCLUDING $8,823 FOR ADULT EDUCATION AND GENERAL INTEREST PROGRAMS (208 PROGRAMS OFFERED WITH 6,907 PARTICIPANTS); CONTINUING EDUCATION PROGRAMS FOR LIBRARY STAFF ($2,258); GENERAL OPERATIONAL PROGRAM SUPPORT ($20,398); OUTREACH PROGRAMS FOR COMMUNITY ENGAGEMENT IN THE MIDTOWN DEVELOPMENT ($4,776) AND AT THE SOUTHSIDE LIBRARY ($7,574). THE FRIENDS ALSO SUPPLEMENTED THE LIBRARY'S BOOKS AND MATERIALS BUDGET ($9,980).


THE FRIENDS OF THE SANTA FE PUBLIC LIBRARY PROVIDED FUNDING FOR UPGRADING AND REFRESHING THE LAYOUT AND FURNISHINGS FOR ALL BRANCHES OF THE SANTA FE PUBLIC LIBRARY.


THE FRIENDS OF THE SANTA FE PUBLIC LIBRARY PROVIDED FUNDING FOR UPGRADING THE SOUTHSIDE AND LA FARGE BRANCHES OF THE SANTA FE PUBLIC LIBRARY ($36,546). THE ORGANIZATION ALSO SUPPLEMENTED THE LIBRARY'S TECHNOLOGY AND FURNITURE, FIXTURES AND EQUIPMENT BUDGETS ($24,247).
