Describe the Organization's Program Activity:
Part 3 - Line 4a
PRESERVATION WITH A PURPOSE:USING REAL ESTATE AND HISTORIC PRESERVATION AS CATALYSTS FOR SOCIAL CHANGE, THE JEFFERSON CENTER FOR LEARNING & THE ARTS REVITALIZES PROPERTIES AND NEIGHBORHOODS THROUGH THE REDEVELOPMENT OF NEGLECTED HISTORIC BUILDINGS AND UNDERUTILIZED LAND. WE WORK TO INCREASE THE CAPACITY AND EFFECTIVENESS OF THE NONPROFIT SECTOR BY DEVELOPING VIBRANT, AFFORDABLE SPACES, BECAUSE WHEN CHARITABLE ORGANIZATIONS CAN SAVE MONEY ON OVERHEAD COSTS, THEY HAVE MORE TO ALLOCATE TO THE PROGRAMS AND SERVICES THAT DIRECTLY IMPACT INDIVIDUALS AND LOCAL COMMUNITIES. MAINTAINING THE PROPERTIES WITH ROUTINE MAINTENANCE AND CAPITAL IMPROVEMENTS IS AN ONGOING PRIORITY. IN 2021 PROJECTS INCLUDED AN EXTERIOR RENOVATION OF 91 JEFFERSON AVENUE WITH REPAIRS TO THE PORCH AND BALCONY AND AN EXTERIOR PAINTING AND WIRING 57 JEFFERSON AVENUE FOR INTERNET SERVICE.IN 2019, A LANDMARK PROPERTY IN COLUMBUS' BREWERY HISTORIC DISTRICT WAS DONATED TO THE JEFFERSON CENTER TO BE RE-PURPOSED AS SPACE FOR NONPROFIT ORGANIZATIONS. THE PROPERTY HAD BEEN PARTIALLY DEMOLISHED INSIDE AND NEGLECTED FOR THE LAST 10 YEARS. A RESTORATION OF THE INTERIOR, WITH AN ADDITION THAT PROVIDES ELEVATOR ACCESS TO EACH OF THE FOUR FLOORS, WAS COMPLETED IN OCTOBER 2020. OPERATIONS WERE LAUNCHED IN 2021 FOR THE SIX TENANT ORGANIZATIONS, WITH AN EMPHASIS ON COVID PROTOCOLS.
