THE MISSION OF HEARTLAND CHAMBER MUSIC (HCM) IS TO CONNECT, ENGAGE, AND INSPIRE STUDENTS OF ALL AGES AND BACKGROUNDS THROUGH A LIFETIME OF MUSIC EDUCATION AND PERFORMANCE.

HEARTLAND CHAMBER MUSIC (HCM) FESTIVAL HAD A RECORD-BREAKING ENROLLMENT FOR THE SUMMER FESTIVAL IN PARTNERSHIP WITH MIDWEST TRUST CENTER. THE FESTIVAL IS HELD ON THE CAMPUS OF JOHNSON COUNTY COMMUNITY COLLEGE. HCM'S 21 FACULTY SERVED 103 STUDENTS AGES 6-30 FROM ALL OVER THE UNITED STATES. THE AWARD-WINNING ESCHER QUARTET SERVED AS OUR QUARTET IN RESIDENCE AND MR. ZLATOMIR FUNG, WORLD-RENOWNED CELLIST JOINED THE HCM FACULTY FOR THE FOUR DAYS CONDUCTING MASTERCLASSES AND WORKING WITH OUR 12 FULL SCHOLARSHIPS, FESTIVAL SCHOLAR STUDENTS. IN ADDITION TO OUR 12 FESTIVAL SCHOLARS, HCM PROVIDED ANOTHER 6 FULL SCHOLARSHIPS AS WELL AS 5 PARTIAL SCHOLARSHIPS TO STUDENTS. STUDENTS PERFORMED 5 CONCERTS AND 16 STUDENTS PERFORMED ON KANSAS PUBLIC RADIO.
STRING SPROUTS RESUMED IN PERSON CLASSES DURING THE ACADEMIC YEAR ENDING JUNE 30,2022. SPROUTS SERVED 72 STUDENTS AND THEIR CAREGIVER/PARENT AT 5 SITE LOCATIONS INCLUDING THE KCK AND KCMO PUBLIC SCHOOL DISTRICTS IN THE K.C. METRO AND THE HIERSTEINER DEVELOPMENT CENTER. STUDENTS RECEIVED 232 LESSONS OVER THE COURSE OF THE YEAR. STUDENTS LEARNED 52 PIECES OF MUSIC, 149 MUSICAL PIECES WERE COMPOSED BY STUDENTS AND 17 STUDENTS PERFORMED 54 SOLOS DURING THE COURSE OF THE YEAR. FIFTEEN KANSAS CITY SYMPHONY MUSICIANS OFFERED 20 GUEST PERFORMANCES DURING OF 33 QUARTERLY SPROUTING UP CEREMONIES. SPROUTING UP CEREMONIES REACHED APPROXIMATELY 211 GUESTS. THE SPROUTS & SYMPHONY CONCERT RETURNED WITH 56 SPROUTS PLAYING WITH THE UMKC CONSERVATORY ORCHESTRA TO AN AUDIENCE IN EXCESS OF 200. TEN YEAR 4 AND YEAR 5 STUDENTS PERFORMED AT THE ANNUAL STRINGFEST FUNDRAISER FOR AN AUDIENCE OF OVER 100 ONLINE.
HEARTLAND CHAMBER MUSIC'S (HCM) ADULT CHAMBER MUSIC WORKSHOP FOR AMATEURS RETURNED IN-PERSON THIS SUMMER. THE FOUR-DAY WORKSHOP WAS FILLED WITH CONNECTING AND INSPIRING ADULT MUSICIANS AND ENGAGEMENT FROM COACHING SESSIONS TO PERFORMANCE! THE HCM ADULT WORKSHOP PROVIDES AN EXCITING OPPORTUNITY FOR ADULT AMATEUR MUSICIANS TO EXPLORE GREAT WORKS OF CHAMBER MUSIC. THIS FOUR DAY WORKSHOP IS OPEN TO STRING, WIND AND KEYBOARD PLAYER FROM AGES 21 AND OVER. THE WORKSHOP SERVED 16 STUDENTS FROM 3 STATES AND FEATURED FACULTY FROM THE THE HEARTLAND CHAMBER MUSIC FESTIVAL, INCLUDING 4 MUSICIANS FROM THE KANSAS CITY SYMPHONY. FIVE ENSEMBLES WORKED AND PLAYED ALONGSIDE 5 PROFESSIONAL FACULTY MEMBERS CULMINATING IN A FREE CONCERT WITH 35 AUDIENCE MEMBERS.
