TRAINING AND PLACING PTSD SERVICE DOGS, OTHER TYPES OF SERVICE DOGS, AS WELL AS FACILITY DOGS.
Describe the Organization's Program Activity:
Part 3
ACQUIRE, CARE FOR, AND TRAIN DOGS TO PREPARE THEM FOR SERVICE DOG ROLES OR FACILITY DOG ROLES. NOT ALL DOGS IN THE PROGRAM BECOME A SERVICE/FACILITY DOG. JTSD PLACED 3 SERVICE DOGS AND 3 FACILITY DOGS IN 2020 THE TARGET NUMBER OF DOGS IN THE PROGRAM IS 16. DUE TO COVID-19, DOGS WERE NOT ALL REPLACED AS THEY EXITED THE PROGRAM. THERE WERE NINE DOGS IN THE PROGRAM LIVING WITH COMMUNITY VOLUNTEERS AT THE END OF 2020.
TRAIN INMATES AT WISCONSIN CORRECTIONAL INSTITUTES SKILL ON RAISING, TRAINING, AND GROOMING JTSD DOGS. SELECTED INMATES PROVIDE CARE AND TRAINING FOR JTSD DOGS IN THE PROGRAM. REPRESENTATIVES FROM THE JTSD PROGRAM PROVIDE TRAINING TO THE INMATES. 40 INMATES WERE INVOLVED IN 2020. BEGINNING IN MARCH 2020, COVID-19 RESTRICTIONS BY WISCONSIN CORRECTIONAL INSTITUTES PREVENTED JTSD FROM BEING PRESENT. THE DOGS IN THIS PROGRAM HAD TO BE MOVED TO JTSD REPRESENTATIVES IN THE COMMUNITY FOR THE REMAINDER OF 2020.
COMUNITY SERVICE - TOOK SERVICE DOGS IN TRAINING TO COMMUNITY EVENTS, ORGANIZATIONS, AND CLUBS TO PROVIDE EDUCATION ABOUT SERVICE DOGS AND THE JTSD PROGRAM. PARTICIPATED IN 14 EVENTS. THE PARTICIPATION IN EVENTS WAS SEVERELY LIMITED DUE TO COVID-19.
