THE LGBT ASYLUM PROJECT REACHES UNDERREPRESENTED, MARGINALIZED COMMUNITIES WHO WOULD OTHERWISE BE UNABLE TO ACCESS HIGH-QUALITY LEGAL SUPPORT AND REPRESENTATION. OUR CLIENTS ORIGINATE FROM COUNTRIES THAT ARE KNOWN FOR EXTREME AND VIOLENT PERSECUTION OF LGBT COMMUNITIES.

IN 2021, THE LGBTAP SERVED 531 LGBTQ+ IMMIGRANTS AND EXCEEDED THE PROJECTED NUMBER OF 500. THESE INCLUDE PENDING AND NEW CASES AS WELL AS LEGAL CONSULTATIONS. IN ADDITION TO OUR DIRECT LEGAL SERVICES, WE CONTINUED PROVIDING FISCAL SPONSORSHIP TO PARIVAR BAY AREA AND FATHERS PROJECT. THE FATHERS PROJECT HIGHLIGHTS THE AIDS EPIDEMIC AND PARIVAR BAY AREA CREATES SAFE SPACES FOR SOUTH ASIAN TRANS AND GENDER NON-CONFORMING (GNC) INDIVIDUALS. WITH OUR FISCAL SPONSORSHIP, PARIVAR BAY AREA WAS ABLE TO HELP HUNDREDS OF TRANS PEOPLE IN INDIA. IN 2021, THANKS TO OUR COLLABORATION WITH SF OCEIA, WE BEGAN TO PROVIDE LEGAL SERVICES FOR PRIMARILY LGBTQ+ DREAMERS FOR THEIR DACA APPLICATIONS AND RENEWALS AS PART OF OUR LONG-TERM GOAL OF BECOMING THE CITY OF SAN FRANCISCOS GO-TO LGBTQ+ IMMIGRATION SERVICE PROVIDER. IN SEPTEMBER 2021, WE HIRED A NEW PARALEGAL FOR ASYLUM AND DACA CASES. WE ALSO ADDED AN OF COUNSEL IMMIGRATION ATTORNEY TO OUR TEAM. THANKS TO AMAZING SUPPORT FROM SEVERAL FOUNDATIONS AND ORGANIZATIONS, WE WERE ABLE TO OFFER ALL OUR SERVICES 100% FREE OF CHARGE, SO OUR CLIENTS CAN FOCUS ON GETTING FOOD OR HOUSING WITHOUT HAVING TO WORRY ABOUT PAYING FOR LEGAL SERVICES DURING THESE TRYING TIMES. IN 2021, WE HAD FOUR FELLOWS FROM ORGANIZATIONS INCLUDING LEGAL SERVICES FUNDERS NETWORK, AND CITY AND COUNTY OF SAN FRANCISCO - OFFICE OF CIVIC ENGAGEMENT AND IMMIGRANT AFFAIRS' DREAMSF.
