THE MISSION OF MEETINGHOUSE ARTS IS TO CULTIVATE GREATER FREEPORT AS A VIBRANT CENTER FOR ARTS AND CULTURE BY FOSTERING CREATIVE COLLABORATIONS, EXPANDING ACCESS TO ARTS AND CULTURAL RESOURCES, AND AMPLIFYING THE ARTS AND CULTURE AS TOOLS TO ECONOMICALLY STRENGTHEN, EDUCATE, AND CONNECT COMMUNITY.

IN 2022 MEETINGHOUSE ARTS STAGE EXPANDED ITS OFFERINGS IN BOTH THEATRICAL GENRES AND CULTURAL DIVERSITY HOSTING BOTH LOCAL AND REGIONAL PROFESSIONAL ARTISTS. FOR EXAMPLE, NEW VAUDEVILLIANS, CIRCUS ARTS PERFORMERS, IMPROVISATIONAL COMEDY TEAMS, JAZZ MUSICIANS (BOTH SOLOISTS AND ENSEMBLES), BOTH CLASSICAL AND AMERICANA MUSICAL GROUPS, AND SPOKEN WORD ARTISTS/MUSICIANS ALL GRACED OUR STAGE. WE HOSTED A CONCERT FOR UKRAINE, PIHCINTU: MULTINATIONAL GIRLS' CHOIR, AND A YOUTH ORCHESTRA. WE CONTINUED OUR CHILDREN'S STORY HOUR ON SATURDAY MORNINGS, USING BOOKS FROM A DIVERSITY OF CULTURES AND ENGAGING CHILDREN IN LISTENING THEN RESPONDING THROUGH VISUAL ARTS OR THEATER ACTIVITIES. WE COOPERATED WITH OTHER NON-PROFITS TO BRING ENGAGING LECTURES TO OUR STAGE, AS WELL AS A TOP TIER STRING QUARTET, AND THEATER COMPANY. MORE THAN 30 PERFORMANCE EVENTS WITH MORE THAN 3000 PEOPLE ATTENDING.
THE MEETINGHOUSE ARTS GALLERY CONTINUED TO OFFER REGULAR GALLERY SHOWS WITH EXHIBITS CHANGING APPROXIMATELY EVERY 6-8 WEEKS. THERE WAS AN EXHIBITION SPECIFICALLY FOR YOUNG (K-12) STUDENT ARTISTS AND AN EXHIBITION BY ARTISTS FROM AN ORGANIZATION SERVING INDIVIDUALS WITH DEVELOPMENTAL DISABILITIES. NEW THIS YEAR, THE GALLERY OFFERED ART-MAKING WORKSHOPS IN DIFFERENT TECHNIQUES FOR BOTH PROFESSIONALS AND NOVICES. ALL THIS IN ADDITION TO SERVING MORE THAN 100 LOCAL ARTIST MEMBERS. OVER 2000 PEOPLE VISITED THE GALLERY.
EXPANDING OUR COMMUNITY ENGAGEMENT, MEETINGHOUSE ARTS PRODUCED OUR TOWN BY THORNTON WILDER, DIRECTED BY A LOCAL DIRECTOR WITH NATIONAL CREDENTIALS. THE CAST OF 20+ COMMUNITY MEMBERS RANGED IN AGE FROM 13 - 81 AND INCLUDED PROFESSIONAL AND NOVICE ACTORS. PARTICIPATING IN THE ANNUAL FREEPORT FALL FESTIVAL (ARTS AND CRAFTS, WORKSHOPS AND PERFORMANCES), MEETINGHOUSE ARTS HELPED 200+ CHILDREN (AND ADULTS) MAKE NATURE GEL PRINTS USING LEAVES AND FERNS.
