MAYORS OF THE MISSISSIPPI RIVER CITIES & TOWNS INITIATIVE (MRCTI) CELEBRATED THE HISTORIC PASSAGE OF THE NATIONS FIRST EVER LOWER MISSISSIPPI RIVER ECOLOGICAL RESTORATION PROGRAM. THE LOWER RIVER PROGRAM JOINS A DECADES-OLD UPPER RIVER COUNTERPART TO CREATE ONE APPROACH FOR THE ENTIRE RIVER. FUTHER, IN 2022, MRCTI SECURED THE NATIONS FIRST MULTI-STATE AND MULTI-CITY COORDINATED GRANT AWARD FOR PLASTIC POLLUTION REDUCTION ACROSS ST. LOUIS, MEMPHIS, AND BATON ROUGE. MRCTI CONSIDERS CLEAN WATER, DISASTER RESILIENCE, AND SUSTAINABLE ECONOMIC DEVELOPMENT TOP PRIORITIES BECAUSE MORE THAN 20 MILLION PEOPLE AND 50 CITIES DRINK THE SURFACE WATER OF THE MISSISSIPPI RIVER. THE TOP THREE ECONOMIES ON THE MISSISSIPPI ARE MANUFACTURING, TOURISM, AND AGRICULTURE.
