DEAF PLUS ADULT COMMUNITY STRIVES TO EMPOWER DEAF AND DEAFBLIND INDIVIDUALS WITH INTELLECTUAL AND DEVELOPMENTAL DISABILITIES IN A DAY PROGRAM ENRICHED IN EDUCATION, AND COMMUNITY INTEGRATION UTILIZING AMERICAN SIGN LANGUAGE.

DAY PROGRAM - PROVIDED HYBRID SERVICES WITH VIRTUAL & IN-PERSON BY OFFERING DAILY EDUCATIONAL ACTIVITIES TO EMPOWER DEAF ADULTS WITH NEURODIVERSITY THAT INCLUDES SCIENCE, EXERCISE, LIFE SKILLS, AND EDUCATION ON DEAF CULTURE TO ENHANCE SOCIAL AND EDUCATIONAL EQUITY. DURING THE YEAR ENDED JUNE 30, 2022, THE ORGANIZATION SERVED A TOTAL OF 42 PARTICIPANTS IN THE DAY PROGRAM. MANY EXPERIENCED THE PROGRAM IN MULTIPLE WAYS: 29 CONSUMERS HAVE ATTENDED IN PERSON FOR ALL OR SOME PART OF THE YEAR, AND THE REMAINING, 13 PARTICIPANTS ATTENDED VIA REMOTE LEARNING EITHER THROUGH ZOOM OR SELF-GUIDED ACTIVITIES OR BOTH. IN PERSON ATTENDANCE STARTED IN JUNE 2021 AND SLOWLY INCREASED TO THE CURRENT CAPACITY OF 24 PER DAY. MANY PARTICIPANTS ATTEND THE PROGRAM PART-TIME, WHICH IS ALLOWS TO ACCOMMODATE MORE PARTICIPANTS.
SUPPORTED EMPLOYMENT PROGRAM (SEP) - PROVIDES EMPLOYMENT PREPARATION ASSISTANCE, JOB PLACEMENT TO INTERNSHIP OPPORTUNITIES AND JOB TRAINING TO PARTICIPANTS IN BECOMING COMPETITIVE EMPLOYEES. WITH THE ASSISTANCE OF DEAF JOB COACHES, SERVICES WERE OFFERED VIRTUALLY TO 23 DEAF ADULTS REMOTELY AND 16 DEAF ADULTS AT THEIR JOB SITES. PROSPECTIVE APPLICANTS RECEIVE INTENSIVE TRAINING ACCORDING TO THEIR CAREER GOALS VIRTUALLY.
