THE EVERY WOMAN GLOBAL COALITION IS ADVANCING A GRASSROOTS-DRIVEN INTERNATIONAL TREATY TO PREVENT VIOLENCE AGAINST WOMEN AND GIRLS WHILE SUPPORTING ON-THE-GROUND ACTIVISTS. WE ARE WORKING TO ADVANCE A GLOBAL TREATY BUILT ON THE SUCCESS OF PROACTIVE TREATIES.

IN 2021 THE 1000 VOICES PROGRAM WAS PILOTED WITH FOUR COHORTS. A TOTAL OF 52 ACTIVISTS PARTICIPATED FROM COUNTRIES IN THE AMERICAS CANADA ST LUCIA US AFRICA CAMEROON GHANA KENYA LIBERIA MADAGASCAR MALI NIGERIA SENEGAL SIERRA LEONE SOUTH AFRICA SUDAN TOGO UGANDA ZIMBABWE ASIA AFGHANISTAN HONG KONG NEPAL PAKISTAN CENTRAL ASIA AZERBAIJAN KYRGYZSTAN EUROPE CZECH REPUBLIC IRELAND AND THE MIDDLE EAST EGYPT TUNISIA. NINETY PERCENT OF PARTICIPANTS SAY THEY WOULD RECOMMEND THAT A COLLEAGUE TAKES PART IN THE PROGRAM. IN 2021 FORUM OF NIGERIAN WOMEN IN POLITICS PRESIDENT FLORENCE GBINIGIE WAS QUOTED IN NEWS COVERAGE ON EVERY WOMAN TREATY'S FIRST DRAFT TREATY. IN YAOUNDÉ CAMEROON ACTIVIST FOR THE RIGHTS OF OLDER PEOPLE PAULETTE METANG LED HIGH-LEVEL MEETINGS WITH THE FORIEGN MINISTRY ON THE NEED FOR A TREATY. MEERA KHANNA EXECUTIVE VICE PRESIDENT OF GUILD FOR SERVICE AND UPASANA RANA OF WOMEN FOR HUMAN RIGHTS LED MEETINGS WITH HIGH-LEVEL NEPALESE POLICYMAKERS ON THE CASE FOR A TREATY. EACH OF THESE ACTIVISTS IS AN ALUMNA OF THE 1000 VOICES FELLOWSHIP PROGRAM.
EVERY WOMAN SECURED PUBLIC ENDORSEMENTS FROM NIGERIAN PRESIDENT BUHARI DR CONGO PRESIDENT TSHISIKEDI AND OAS SECRETARY GENERAL LUIS ALMAGRO. COALITION ACTIVISTS HAVE NOW MET WITH A CUMULATIVE 122 NATIONS- 62% OF ALL NATIONS ON EARTH. THIS INCLUDES ACTIVE DIALOGUE WITH THE BIDEN ADMINISTRATION. THOSE CALLING FOR A TREATY ALSO INCLUDE: SCORES OF FRONTLINE ACTIVISTS FROM EVERY REGION OF THE WORLD AND GRASSROOTS AND GLOBAL ORGANIZATIONS; FORMER UN SPECIAL RAPPORTEURS ON VIOLENCE AGAINST WOMEN RADHIKA COOMARASWAMY AND RASHIDA MANJOO; THREE NOBEL PEACE PRIZE LAUREATES JODY WILLIAMS SHIRIN EBADI AND TAWAKKOL KARMAN; ADDITIONAL ENDORSEMENTS AND DEEPENING COLLABORATION INCLUDE VITAL VOICES FUTURES WITHOUT VIOLENCE ROBERT KENNEDY FOUNDATION FOR HUMAN RIGHTS CARE OXFAM WORLD PULSE SOROPTIMIST INTERNATIONAL WOMEN LIVING UNDER THE MUSLIM LAW AND GLOBAL RIGHTS FOR WOMEN.
