RIDING FOR FOCUS:IN 2021, OUTRIDE GRANTED 52 NEW MIDDLE SCHOOLS THE RIDING FOR FOCUS PROGRAM ACROSS THE US AND CANADA. THE PROGRAM INTEGRATES A CYCLING PROGRAM INTO THE PHYSICAL EDUCATION CURRICULUM TO IMPROVE STUDENTS COGNITIVE, PHYSICAL, AND SOCIO-EMOTIONAL WELLBEING. TO SUPPORT THE PROGRAMS, OUTRIDE GRANTED 1,056 BIKES AND HELMETS AND TRAINED 144 TEACHER CHAMPIONS IN THE RIDING FOR FOCUS CURRICULUM. ADDITIONALLY, OUTRIDE UPDATED THE ENTIRE RIDING FOR FOCUS CURRICULUM IN 2021 AND HOSTED THE FIRST IN-PERSON TRAINING IN GALLUP, NM TO SUPPORT SIX SCHOOLS WITH DIRECT RIDING FOR FOCUS TRAINING FROM THE NAVAJO NATION.
RESEARCH:OUTRIDE'S RESEARCH AIMS TO UNDERSTAND HOW RIDING A BIKE IMPACTS THE COGNITIVE, SOCIAL, AND EMOTIONAL HEALTH OF YOUTH. WE DO THIS THROUGH BOTH APPLIED RESEARCH AND PROGRAM EVALUATION WITH OUR RIDING FOR FOCUS PROGRAM AND THROUGH SUPPORTING AND COLLABORATING ON INSTITUTIONAL RESEARCH AT UNIVERSITIES ACROSS THE COUNTRY. OUR ANNUAL SUMMIT SERVES TO DISSEMINATE THE MOST RECENT RESEARCH ON THE IMPACT OF YOUTH CYCLING PROGRAMS ON THE HEALTH AND HAPPINESS OF YOUTH AND THEIR COMMUNITIES, HELPING TO PUT RESEARCH INTO PRACTICE.
OUTRIDE FUND:THE OUTRIDE FUND EMPOWERS LOCAL COMMUNITIES TO INVEST IN YOUTH CYCLING PROGRAMS THROUGH A COMBINATION OF FUNDRAISING AND DOLLAR-FOR-DOLLAR MATCHING GRANTS. IN 2021, OUTRIDE AWARDED ONE ROUND OF OUTRIDE FUND GRANTS. THIS, THE FOURTH ROUND, COMMITTED OVER $530,000 IN MATCHING FUNDS TO 53 ORGANIZATIONS FOCUSED ON IMPROVING DIVERSITY, EQUITY, INCLUSION AND OPPORTUNITY FOR YOUTH RIDERS. THE OUTRIDE FUND HAS NOW COMMITTED OVER $1,000,000 IN MATCHING GRANTS VIA 129 COMMUNITY GRANTS IN 40 STATES SINCE ITS INCEPTION IN 2019. THE OUTRIDE FUND ALSO OPENED A FIFTH ROUND OF GRANT APPLICAITONS IN 2021, WHICH WILL BE AWARDED IN 2022, FURTHER INCREASING ACCESSIBILITY IN CYCLING FOR YOUTH PROGRAMS AND COMMUNITIES.
