MAGICAL CLASSROOMS (AULAS MAGICAS) TRAINS AND EQUIPS YOUNG ADULTS TO TEACH CHILDREN, AGES 4-6 IN REMOTE AREAS CURRENTLY UNATTENDED TO BY THE GUATEMALAN GOVERNMENT. THE PROJECT OVERCOMES GEOGRAPHIC ISOLATION AND LACK OF EDUCATIONAL RESOURCES BY DELIVERING A CULTURALLY SENSITIVE, INNOVATIVE GUIDED CURRICULUM TO HELP CHILDREN BECOME MORE SUCCESSFUL IN FIRST GRADE. CLASSES ARE PAIRED WITH A DAILY HEALTHY SNACK THAT STANDS TO DRASTICALLY REDUCE THE IMPACT OF CHRONIC MALNUTRITION.
LETS BE READY (PEQUENOS PERO LISTOS) OFFERS NEWLY GRADUATED TEACHERS, AGED 18-24 THE OPPORTUNITY TO STAY IN THEIR COMMUNITIES AND BECOME SOCIAL ENTREPRENUERS BY STARTING CLASSROOMS IN PRIMARILY RURAL GUATEMALAN MAYAN COMMUNITIES. THE PROGRAM PROVIDES MATERIALS, A MONTHLY STIPEND FOR EACH TEACHER AND ADDITIONAL TRAINING TO ENHANCE EFFECTIVENESS.
