OUR OBJECTIVE AT TUCD IS TO BRING ENCOURAGEMENT, OPTIMISM, AND COMFORT TO THOSE AFFECTED BY THIS TERRIBLE AND LIFE-CHANGING DISEASE. WE HAVE DEVELOPED WHAT WE CALL OUR "THUMBS UP, POWER UP" PACKS. EACH PACK INCLUDES A BLANKET, BEANIE, HAND SANITIZER, JOURNAL, PEN AND PORTABLE PHONE CHARGER. MOST CANCER TREATMENT CENTERS ARE SOMEWHAT CHILLY, SO THE BLANKET WILL PROVIDE WARMTH. PATIENTS RECEIVING CHEMOTHERAPY OFTEN LOSE THEIR HAIR, SO A BEANIE WILL NOT ONLY KEEP THEIR HEADS WARM, BUT ALSO PROVIDE A BOOST OF SELF-ESTEEM FOR THOSE STRUGGLING WITH HAIR LOSS. CANCER PATIENTS TYPICALLY EXPERIENCE WEAKENED IMMUNE SYSTEMS DURING TREATMENT, SO HAND SANITIZER WILL HELP WARD OFF BACTERIA AND PREVENT ILLNESSES. WE INCLUDED THE PEN AND JOURNAL IN THE PACKS SO PATIENTS CAN TRACK THEIR PERSONAL PATHS OF HEALING. FINALLY, WE HAVE INLCUDED A PORTABLE PHONE CHARGER. IT'S HARD TO FIND AN OUTLET WHEN GETTING TREATMENT, SO THIS WILL KEEP THEM CHARGED THROUGHOUT THE DAY. TUCD HAS DELIVERED THOUSANDS OF POWER UP PACKS SINCE STARTING THE PROGRAM IN 2015.
