IN FURTHERANCE OF OUR CHARITABLE EFFORTS, THE MODEL ALLIANCE MADE NUMEROUS ACCOMPLISHMENTS IN THE LAST FISCAL YEAR. WE CONVENED SEVERAL VIRTUAL AWARENESS-RAISING EVENTS ABOUT A RANGE OF LABOR ISSUES IN THE FASHION INDUSTRY, INCLUDING HOW TO CREATE A SAFER, MORE EQUITABLE WORK ENVIRONMENT, HEALTH AND SAFETY ISSUES IN THE AGE OF COVID, AND HOW TO REPORT SEXUAL HARASSMENT AND OTHER GRIEVANCES AND NAVIGATE UNEMPLOYMENT. WE SUPPORTED OVER 300 PEOPLE IN OUR COMMUNITY WITH A WIDE RANGE OF ISSUES INCLUDING SEXUAL ABUSE, WAGE THEFT, SCAMS, AND TRAFFICKING, AND CONNECTED INDIVIDUALS WITH APPROPRIATE RESOURCES. WE HOSTED WEEKLY VIRTUAL SUPPORT GROUPS AND PROVIDED A SAFE SPACE FOR CHANNELING ADVERSITY INTO ACTION. MEMBERS OF OUR COMMUNITY PARTICIPATED IN KNOW YOUR RIGHTS EVENTS AND BENEFITTED FROM LEADERSHIP OPPORTUNITIES, INCLUDING PUBLIC SPEAKING ENGAGEMENTS AND CREATIVE CAMPAIGNS. WITH A COALITION OF SURVIVORS, NONPROFIT ALLIES AND ADVOCATES, WE RALLIED IN NEW YORK STATE FOR THE RIGHTS OF SURVIVORS OF SEXUAL ASSAULT IN THE FASHION INDUSTRY. WE RAISED PUBLIC AWARENESS OF SYSTEMIC ABUSE IN THE FASHION INDUSTRY THROUGH SOCIAL MEDIA CAMPAIGNS AND MAJOR NEWS OUTLETS. FINALLY, WE LEVERAGED OUR VISIBILITY TO ADVANCE THE RIGHTS OF GARMENT WORKERS ACROSS THE GLOBE, HELPING TO CHAMPION THE GARMENT WORKER PROTECTIONS ACT IN CALIFORNIA AND RAISING AWARENESS FOR UYGUR FORCED LABOR DURING FASHION WEEK.
