MEDICAL EDUCATION RESOURCES INITIATIVE FOR TEENS (MERIT) AIMS TO ELIMINATE HEALTH CARE DISPARITIES BY TRANSFORMING UNDER-REPRESENTED HIGH SCHOOL STUDENTS INTO HEALTH CARE LEADERS. TO ACCOMPLISH THESE GOALS, MERIT PROVIDES SUPPORT AND OPPORTUNITIES TO STUDENTS THROUGH MIDDLE SCHOOL, HIGH SCHOOL, COLLEGE, AND BEYOND. THIS SUPPORT INCLUDES RIGOROUS ACADEMIC CLASSES, INTENSIVE MENTORSHIP, COLLEGE COUNSELING, HEALTH CAREER INTERNSHIPS, AND MORE.

MERIT PROVIDES HOLISTIC SUPPORT FOR HIGH SCHOOL AND MIDDLE SCHOOL STUDENTS WHO ASPIRE TO BECOME HEALTH CARE PROFESSIONALS. 100% OF THE SCHOLARS IN THE HIGH SCHOOL PROGRAM LAST YEAR WERE ACCEPTED TO 4-YEAR UNIVERSITIES, SAT SCORES GREW, AND EVERY SCHOLAR REPORTED AN INCREASED DESIRE TO PURSUE A CAREER IN HEALTH CARE.
