THE GRAND ISLAND PUBLIC SCHOOLS FOUNDATION CREATES EXPANDED OPPORTUNITIES AND ACCESS FOR THE STUDENTS OF THE GRAND ISLAND PUBLIC SCHOOLS THROUGH PHILANTHROPIC INVESTMENT. THEIR ROBUST SCHOLARSHIP PROGRAM THIS YEAR OFFERED 521,333 IN COLLEGE SCHOLARSHIPS TO BOTH HIGH SCHOOL STUDENTS SEEKING DUAL CREDIT AND GRADUATING SENIORS. OTHER INDIVIDUAL GRANTS INCLUDE KINDNESS GRANTS TO FULFILL A STUDENT NEED WHEN IT IS IDENTIFIED. THESE INCLUDE PAYING OFF LUNCH ACCOUNTS, ACQUIRING TENNIS SHOES OR A COAT, PAYING REGISTRATION FOR CHOIR CLINICS, ETC. ADDITIONALLY, THE FOUNDATION INVESTS IN GROUPS OF STUDENTS AND THEIR TEACHERS THROUGH CLASSROOM GRANTS, SPECIAL PROJECTS, CAPITAL PURCHASES, TEACHER TRAINING/SCHOLARSHIPS, AND THE TEACHER OF THE YEAR AWARDS.
THE GRAND ISLAND PUBLIC SCHOOLS FOUNDATION ACTS AS THE PHILANTHROPIC ARM OF THE GRAND ISLAND PUBLIC SCHOOLS. FOR THE PAST 5 YEARS THE FOUNDATION HAS BEEN ACTIVELY RAISING FUNDS FOR THE BUILDING AND RENOVATION OF GRAND ISLAND'S MEMORIAL STADIUM. THE PROJECT IS A 17 MILLION PROJECT. CONSTRUCTION OF THE PROJECT HAS BEEN COMPLETED DURING FISCAL YEAR ENDING AUGUST 31, 2021.
