Describe the Organization's Program Activity:
Part 3 - Line 4a
WE PROVIDE THE "GIFT OF SIGHT" THROUGH THE PROMOTION, PROCUREMENT AND DISTRIBUTION OF HUMAN EYE TISSUE FOR TRANSPLANTATION AND RESEARCH. THE LIONS EYE BANK IS DEDICATED TO PROVIDING THE HIGHEST QUALITY HUMAN EYE TISSUE TO RESTORE VISION TO THOSE WITH VISUAL DIFFICULTIES AND TO AID IN THE CRUSADE AGAINST ALL BLINDNESS. THE STAFF AND BOARD MEMBERS SERVE AS STEWARDS TO ENSURE THAT WE MAINTAIN THE DIGNITY AND RESPECT OF ALL THOSE INVOLVED IN EYE DONATION. WE FEEL THAT FOR OUR ORGANIZATION TO BE SUCCESSFUL, WE NEED TO BE AWARE OF ALL COMPONENTS OF DONATION, WITH THE MOST IMPORTANT ASPECT BEING THE DONOR FAMILY AND MAKING SURE WE ARE FULFILLING THEIR WISHES. MAKING THE DONATION PROCESS A POSITIVE EXPERIENCE FOR THEM AND THEIR LOVED ONES IS OUR ULTIMATE GOAL. IF WE ACHIEVE THAT GOAL, OUR ORGANIZATION WILL AUTOMATICALLY BE SUCCESSFUL. RECENTLY A STATE-WIDE DONOR REGISTRY WAS ESTABLISHED WITH THE NEBRASKA ORGAN RECOVERY SYSTEM AND THE DEPT OF MOTOR VEHICLES. WE FEEL THAT THE REGISTRY WILL INCREASE THE NUMBER OF DONORS NOT ONLY FOR LIFE SAVING ORGANS BUT ALSO FOR EYES AND OTHER TISSUES. NEW FDA REGULATIONS REQUIRE ADDITIONAL PAPERWORK, RECORDKEEPING, TESTING AND MUCH MORE.
