THE GLOBAL AGING INSTITUTE (GAI) RECEIVED FUNDING FOR A NEW SERIES OF OCCASIONAL PAPERS ON THE DEMOGRAPHIC, ECONOMIC, AND SOCIAL TRENDS RESHAPING AMERICA AND THE WORLD, AND IN PARTICULAR THE FUTURE ENVIRONMENT FOR RETIREMENT AND HEALTH CARE. TOPICS EXPLORED INCLUDED THE LONG-TERM IMPACT OF DECLINING BIRTHRATES AND IMMIGRATION ON U.S. ECONOMIC GROWTH, THE CAUSES OF THE SLOWDOWN IN IMPROVEMENTS IN U.S. LIFE EXPECTANCY, AND THE POTENTIAL BENEFITS OF LONGER WORK LIVES IN AN AGING AMERICA.

THE GLOBAL AGING INSTITUTE (GAI) RECEIVED A SECOND YEAR OF FUNDING FOR A QUARTERLY ISSUE BRIEF SERIES THAT EXPLORES THE FISCAL, ECONOMIC, SOCIAL, AND GEOPOLITICAL IMPLICATIONS OF THE AGING OF AMERICA. TOPICS EXPLORED INCLUDED THE MACROECONOMIC IMPLICATIONS OF POPULATION AGING, COMMON MYTHS ABOUT FEDERAL HEALTH-CARE REFORM, THE SUSTAINABILITY OF AMERICA'S GROWING NATIONAL DEBT, AND THE POTENTIAL BENEFITS OF INCREASED IMMIGRATION IN AN AGING AMERICA.
EDUCATIONAL OUTREACH. IN ADDITION TO UNDERTAKING RESEARCH PROJECTS, THE GLOBAL AGING INSTITUTE (GAI) PURSUES ITS BROAD EDUCATIONAL MISSION BY PARTICIPATING IN NATIONAL AND INTERNATIONAL CONFERENCES, GIVING SPEECHES AND MEDIA INTERVIEWS, AND BRIEFING STAKEHOLDERS ON THE CHALLENGE OF GLOBAL AGING. IN 2021, GAI GAVE PRESENTATIONS AT EVENTS SPONSORED BY, AMONG OTHERS, THE WORLD BANK, THE CONCORD COALITION, THE GLOBAL COALITION ON AGING, AND THE CONFERENCE OF CONSULTING ACTUARIES.
FINANCIAL WELLBEING. THE GLOBAL AGING INSTITUTE (GAI) RECEIVED FUNDING TO COLLABORATE IN WRITING A REPORT WHICH EXAMINES THE DEMOGRAPHIC AND ECONOMIC FORCES THAT ARE RESHAPING FINANCIAL RISKS AND NEEDS ACROSS THE LIFECYCLE AND EXPLAINS HOW THE LIFE INSURANCE INDUSTRY WILL NEED TO EVOLVE IF IT IS TO HELP PEOPLE SAVE ENOUGH AND STAY HEALTHY OVER LONGER LIFE SPANS.
