Describe the Organization's Mission:
Part 3 - Line 1
TO PROVIDE INDEPENDENT, NON-PARTISAN, DATA-DRIVEN, AND TRUSTED POLICY AND PROGRAM GUIDANCE THAT CREATES SYSTEMIC CHANGES SO ALL PEOPLE CAN OBTAIN EFFECTIVE, EFFICIENT BEHAVIORAL HEALTH CARE WHEN AND WHERE THEY NEED IT.
Describe the Organization's Program Activity:
DEVELOP LOCAL BEHAVIORAL HEALTH SYSTEMS - THE MEADOWS INSTITUTE PUTS POLICY INTO PRACTICE, AND PRACTICE INTO POLICY. WE WORK ON THE GROUND IN EVERY REGION OF THE STATE AND WITH NATIONAL PARTNERS TO GAIN FIRST-HAND KNOWLEDGE OF COMMUNITY CAPACITY, INNOVATIONS, AND IMMEDIATE AND EMERGING COMMUNITY NEEDS. THIS UNIQUE POSITION INFORMS THE POLICY RECOMMENDATIONS WE BRING TO DECISION-MAKERS AND ALLOWS US TO BETTER ASSIST LOCAL COMMUNITIES IN COLLABORATING AND WORKING TOGETHER TO IMPROVE HOW HEALTH CARE DELIVERY SYSTEMS OPERATE AND RESPOND TO COMMUNITY NEEDS.
IMPROVE STATE AND FEDERAL POLICY - LOCAL, STATE AND FEDERAL REGULATIONS ALL AFFECT THE DELIVERY OF HEALTH CARE. THE MEADOWS INSTITUTE PROVIDES STATE AND NATIONAL LEADERS WITH THE BEST DATA AND RESEARCH TO INFORM DECISION-MAKING ABOUT LAWS, PROGRAM IMPLEMENTATION STRATEGIES, AND HOW TO FUND DELIVERY SYSTEMS TO PROVIDE EFFECTIVE AND HIGH-QUALITY CARE.
CHANGE PUBLIC AWARENESS TO IMPROVE ACCESS TO EFFECTIVE CARE - TWO-THIRDS OF PEOPLE WHO NEED CARE NEVER SEEK IT, OFTEN BECAUSE THEY DO NOT KNOW THAT EFFECTIVE AND QUALITY SERVICES HELP ARE AVAILABLE AND RECOVERY AND REMISSION ARE POSSIBLE. NINE IN TEN TEXANS FEEL THAT MENTAL HEALTH IS HARDER TO TALK ABOUT THAN OTHER HEALTH CONCERNS. THEREFORE, THE MEADOWS INSTITUTE WORKS TO INCREASE PUBLIC AWARENESS OF MENTAL AND BRAIN DISEASES AND THEIR EFFECTIVE TREATMENT, SO THAT PEOPLE TALK MORE OPENLY ABOUT MENTAL AND BRAIN HEALTH AND HELP EACH OTHER ACCESS EFFECTIVE CARE.
