PITCARES PURPOSE IS TO HELP BREAK THE CHAINS OF GENERATIONAL POVERTY, STRENGTHEN FAMILIES, AND BRING HOPE FOR THE NEXT GENERATION, THROUGH EDUCATION, JOB TRAINING, AND MENTORING. MISSION STATEMENT TO BUILD RELATIONSHIPS WITHIN THE COMMUNITY THAT WILL PROVIDE US THE OPPORTUNITY TO SERVE AS ADVOCATES FOR THOSE IN NEED; TO HELP FAMILIES ACHIEVE FINANCIAL INDEPENDENCE THROUGH PROVIDING DECENT, AFFORDABLE HOUSING, LIFE SKILLS TRAINING AND ONE ON ONE MENTORING; AND TO BRING HOPE TO THE NEXT GENERATION THROUGH PERSONAL RELATIONSHIPS, AND PROGRAMMING TO BENEFIT THE YOUNGER COMMUNITY OF PITCAIRN

COMMUNITY CENTER AND LIBRARY - PURCHASED AND RENOVATED A BUILDING TO BECOME A LENDING LIBRARY AND COMMUNITY CENTER WHICH OPENED IN 2019. IT OFFERS FREE INTERNET AND COMPUTER ACCESS TO THE PUBLIC AS WELL AS READING PROGRAMS, STEM AND STEAM OPPORTUNITIES, AFTER-SCHOOL TUTORING AND OTHER COMMUNITY EVENTS.
FOOD BANK - EACH MONTH, WE PROVIDE FROZEN MEATS, DAIRY PRODUCTS, CANNED MEAT, SOUP, CEREAL, DRY GOODS, PERSONAL HYGIENE ITEMS AND FRESH FRUIT AND VEGETABLES TO HUNDREDS OF INDIVIDUALS IN PITCAIRN AND THE SURROUNDING COMMUNITIES
DELIVERY OF A LUNCH AND HOT DINNER MEAL TO THE ELDERLY, LOW INCOME AND SHUT-INS. APPROXIMATELY 25,500 MEALS WERE PREPARED AND DELIVERED DURING 2021. APPROXIMATELY 70 VOLUNTEER HELP TO PREPARE, PACKAGE, AND DELIVER MEALS EACH WEEK.
LIFE SKILLS - A COMPREHENSIVE PROGRAM OFFERING FAMILIES A PLACE TO LIVE AT A REDUCED RENT WITH A PORTION OF THAT RENT BEING HELD IN ESCROW FOR THE FAMILY TO USE AS A DOWN PAYMENT ON THEIR OWN HOME AT THE END OF THE 2 YEAR PROGRAM. YOUTH MENTORING - PITCARE VOLUNTEERS MEET WEEKLY WITH 1ST-6TH GRADE GIRLS AND THEN 7TH GRADE - 12TH GRADE GIRLS, PROVIDING A NUTRITIONAL MEAL, CRAFTS FOR THE YOUNGER GROUP AND A TIME OF ENCOURAGEMENT, WHILE DISCUSSING RELEVANT ISSUED FACING YOUTH TODAY. ADDITIONALLY, WE OFFERED A WEEKLY BASKETBALL NIGHT FOR BOYS THROUGH THE WINTER MONTHS, AND A NUTRITION AND EXERCISE CLASS FOR 4 MONTHS FOCUSING ON MAKING NUTRITIOUS SNACKS AND SETTING EXERCISE GOALS. THIS PART OF THE PROGRAM CULMINATED IN PARTICIPATING IN THE PITTSBURGH MARATHON 1 MILE RUN FOR CHILDREN. FINALLY, WE OFFERED A SUMMER "READING IS FUN" PROGRAM THREE AFTERNOONS A WEEK DURING THE SUMMER MONTHS FOR CHILDREN THROUGH THE AGE OF 6TH GRADE.
