THE CORPORATION IS FORMED FOR THE CHARITABLE PURPOSES OF THE PROMOTION OF KNOWLEDGE AND UNDERSTANDING OF ETHNICITY, ETHNIC CONFLICT, AND NATIONALISM STUDIES BROADLY, WITH A PARTICULAR GEOGRAPHIC FOCUS ON CENTRAL, EASTERN, AND SOUTHEASTERN EUROPE, RUSSIA, UKRAINE, THE CAUCASUS, AND EURASIA. IT SUPPORTS THIS KNOWLEDGE AND UNDERSTANDING THROUGH THE SPONSORSHIP AND ORGANIZATION OF CONVENTIONS, CONFERENCES, AND SYMPOSIA, ALONE AND IN COLLABORATION WITH OTHER ORGANIZATIONS. IT SUPPORTS AND PROMOTES THE SCHOLARLY WORK OF ACADEMICS AND STUDENTS BY PRESENTING AWARDS IN RECOGNITION OF EXCEPTIONAL WORKS OF SCHOLARSHIP. ASN CONNECTS HUNDREDS OF MEMBERS IN MORE THAN FIFTY COUNTRIES, INCLUDING SCHOLARS, DOCTORAL STUDENTS, POLICY ANALYSTS, AND NGO PRACTITIONERS. THE ORGANIZATIONS PRIMARY ACTIVITIES INCLUDE AN ANNUAL WORLD CONVENTION HOSTED IN COORDINATION WITH COLUMBIA UNIVERSITYS HARRIMAN INSTITUTE IN NEW YORK, AS WELL AS REGULAR EUROPEAN CONFERENCES. THE ANNUAL CONVENTION TYPICALLY FEATURES OVER 150 PANELS, AND ITS PARTICIPANTS CONSTITUTE THE MOST INTERNATIONAL GROUP OF SCHOLARS OF ANY NORTH AMERICAN CONVENTIONS AND CONFERENCES IN THIS FIELD. VIRTUAL ASN IS A GLOBAL ONLINE ACADEMIC PLATFORM LINKING SCHOLARS, STUDENTS, AND MEMBERS OF THE BROADER PUBLIC INTERESTED IN QUESTIONS OF NATIONALISM AND ETHNICITY WITH A REGIONAL FOCUS ON EUROPE AND EURASIA. IT PROVIDES OPPORTUNITIES FOR SCHOLARS TO SHARE KNOWLEDGE AND EXPERTISE ON PRESSING ISSUES, AND TO STRENGTHEN THEIR OWN RESEARCH AND TEACHING SKILLS. NATIONALITIES PAPERS IS A PEER-REVIEWED ACADEMIC JOURNAL PUBLISHED BY CAMBRIDGE UNIVERSITY PRESS FOR THE ASSOCIATION FOR THE STUDY OF NATIONALITIES.
