THE FOUNDATION AWARDED PRIZES TO SCIENTISTS AND RESEARCHERS WHO DEMONSTRATED EXCELLENCE IN RESEARCH AIMED AT UNDERSTANDING LIVING SYSTEMS, CURING INTRACTABLE DISEASES AND EXTENDING HUMAN LIFE. THE BREAKTHROUGH PRIZES IN LIFE SCIENCES WERE AWARDED TO SIX INDIVIDUALS WHO MADE SIGNIFICANT ACCOMPLISHMENTS IN THESE AREAS.
IN CONJUNCTION WITH THE BREAKTHROUGH PRIZE IN LIFE SCIENCES FOUNDATION, THE BREAKTHROUGH PRIZE FOUNDATION AWARDS PRIZES AT THE ANNUAL PRIZE CEREMONY. THE INTENT OF THE CEREMONY IS TO HELP CREATE AND STIMULATE INTEREST AND DISCOVERIES IN UNDERSTANDING LIVING SYSTEMS AND EXTENDING HUMAN LIFE, AND TO CREATE PUBLIC AWARENESS AND A SENSE OF EXCITEMENT IN THOSE FIELDS. AS A RESULT OF THE COVID-19 PANDEMIC, THE CEREMONY WAS CANCELLED. THE FOUNDATION INCURRED EXPENSES DURING THE FISCAL YEAR ENDING MAY 31, 2022 IN PREPARATION OF THE CEREMONY PRIOR TO CANCELLATION. THE CEREMONY FEATURES CELEBRITY PRESENTATIONS, FILMS, COMEDY, AND LIVE MUSIC FROM MAJOR ARTISTS AND IS AVAILABLE ON CERTAIN MAJOR OUTLETS.
