Describe the Organization's Program Activity:
Part 3 - Line 4a
COLLEGE ADVISING CORPS PARTNERS WITH MORE THAN 30 UNIVERSITIES NATIONWIDE. TOGETHER, WE COLLABORATE TO PLACE RECENT COLLEGE GRADUATES SERVING AS NEAR-PEER ADVISERS IN UNDERSERVED HIGH SCHOOLS ACROSS THE U.S. WHERE THEY HELP STUDENTS FIND AND PURSUE THEIR BEST HIGHER EDUCATION PATH. IN FY 2021, ALMOST 70% OF AMERICA'S STUDENTS ADVISED BY A COLLEGE ADVISING CORPS ADVISER IDENTIFIED AS PEOPLE OF COLOR, AS DID 66% OF COLLEGE ADVISING CORPS ADVISERS. FIFTY-SIX PERCENT OF CAC ADVISERS WERE FIRST-GENERATION COLLEGE GRADUATES. STUDENTS IDENTIFY WITH THEIR ADVISERS, WHICH FOSTERS A SUPPORTIVE AND POWERFUL CONNECTION BETWEEN THE TWO. ADVISERS BRIDGE DISPARITIES FOR DISADVANTAGED HIGH SCHOOL STUDENTS, PROVIDING COUNSELING AND ADVICE THAT ALLOWS STUDENTS TO REALIZE AND ACHIEVE THEIR COLLEGE POTENTIAL.
WHILE COLLEGE ADVISING CORPS' PRIMARY MISSION IS TO INCREASE POST-SECONDARY OPPORTUNITIES FOR STUDENTS, A POWERFUL SECONDARY OUTCOME RELATES TO THE PROFESSIONAL DEVELOPMENT, LEADERSHIP SKILLS, AND PERSONAL GROWTH ADVISERS GAIN AS A RESULT OF THEIR SERVICE. THROUGH COLLEGE ADVISING CORPS' TRAINING AND SERVICE, ADVISERS ACQUIRE VALUABLE WORK AND LIFE EXPERIENCE. COLLEGE ADVISING CORPS ALUMNI GO ON TO BECOME POWERFUL LEADERS FOR CHANGE. SINCE 2005, COLLEGE ADVISING CORPS HAS SERVED MORE THAN 1.5 MILLION SENIORS, NEARLY 70,000 OF WHOM HAVE ENROLLED IN EITHER A TWO-YEAR COMMUNITY COLLEGE OR A FOUR-YEAR UNIVERSITY AS OF ACADEMIC YEAR 2021. IN FY 2021, 783 NEAR-PEER ADVISERS SERVED ABOUT 220,000 STUDENTS IN 746 HIGH SCHOOLS ACROSS 17 STATES. ACCORDING TO TYPICAL RESULTS FROM OUR ANNUAL SENIOR SURVEY, STUDENTS WHO REPORT MEETING WITH A COLLEGE ADVISING CORPS ADVISER ARE ALSO MORE LIKELY TO COMPLETE CRUCIAL COLLEGE GOING STEPS COMPARED TO STUDENTS WHO DID NOT MEET WITH THEIR ADVISER. FOR EXAMPLE, CLASS OF 2021 SENIORS FROM OUR RHODE ISLAND PROGRAM WERE 33% MORE LIKELY TO SUBMIT THE FAFSA AND 21% MORE LIKELY TO APPLY TO COLLEGE IF THEY REPORTED MEETING WITH THEIR ADVISER. WITH THE EMERGENCE OF VIRTUAL ENVIRONMENTS DUE TO THE COVID-19 PANDEMIC, COLLEGE ADVISING CORPS' WORK HAS NEVER BEEN MORE CRITICAL THAN IT WAS IN FY 21.
