PASSTHROUGH DONATIONS: IN SELECT SITUATIONS, THE FOUNDATION MAY FACILITATE THE DISTRIBUTION OF UNSOLICITED CONTRIBUTIONS THAT SUPPORT KCPS PROJECTS THAT QUALIFY FOR IRS 501C(3) TAX EXEMPTION BUT FALL OUTSIDE DEFINED FUNDING PRIORITIES.
AVID: AVID, WHICH STANDS FOR ADVANCEMENT VIA INDIVIDUAL DETERMINATION, IS A COLLEGE READINESS PROGRAM DESIGNED TO HELP STUDENTS DEVELOP THE SKILLS THEY NEED TO BE SUCCESSFUL IN COLLEGE. THE PROGRAM PLACES SPECIAL EMPHASIS ON GROWING WRITING, CRITICAL THINKING, TEAMWORK, ORGANIZATION AND READING SKILLS. THE FOUNDATION PROVIDES THE CAPITAL FUNDS TO BEGIN AVID IN 12 KCPS SITES.
COVID RELIEF FUNDS: DURING THE 2020-21 SCHOOL YEAR, THE SCHOOL DISTRICT WAS STILL TRYING TO ASSIST STUDENTS ACADEMICALLY AND MENTALLY. ADDITIONAL FUNDS WERE SOUGHT TO SUPPORT TUTORING, CLASSROOM TOOLS FOR TEACHERS AND PROVIDE ADDITIONAL MENTAL HEALTH SERVICES FOR STUDENTS.
