CCS HOSPITALITY HOUSE AND RESOURCE CENTER - THE CCS HOUSE PROVIDES A PLACE OF STUDY, LEARNING, SOCIAL LIFE, AND MEETING SPACE FOR GROUPS AND IS LOCATED JUST OFF OF DUKE UNIVERSITY'S EAST CAMPUS IN DURHAM, NORTH CAROLIANA. STUDENTS ESPECIALLY, CAN GAIN THE EXPERIENCE OF A HOME-LIKE SETTING THAT THEY MISS ON THE COLLEGE CAMPUS. WITH COFFEE AND SNACKS FLOWING, WEEKLY DINNERS, AND LOTS OF DISCUSSION ABOUT THE RELEVANCY FOR CHRIST IN THE WORLD, STUDENTS HAVE WHAT THEY COMMONLY CALL, A HOME AWAY FROM HOME. DURING THE 2021-2022 SCHOOL YEAR, THE HOUSE WELCOMED APPROXIMATELY 440 INDIVIDUALS.
THE CENTER FOR CHRISTIANITY AND SCHOLARSHIP OFFERS COURSES EVERY YEAR THAT EXPLORE INTERSECTIONS OF CHRISTIAN FAITH AND ACADEMICS. OUR CLASSES HELP STUDENTS CONSIDER HOW A CHRISTIAN FRAMEWORK OF THE WORLD ENGAGES WITH QUESTIONS ACROSS VARIOUS FIELDS. IN 2021-2022, OUR COURSES EXAMINED TOPICS SUCH AS ECONOMIC INEQUALITY, WHAT IT MEANS TO BE HUMAN, THEOLOGICAL FOUNDATIONS, FAITH IN LITERATURE (BY READING DANTE), DOES GOD EXIST, AND THE VOCATION OF A STUDENT. THESE COURSES SERVED 72 STUDENTS.
FACULTY DEVELOPMENT COHORTS - EVERY YEAR CCS DEVELOP FACULTY WITH HIGH-CONCENTRATION, IN-DEPTH TRAINING TO ENGAGE CHRISTIAN THEOLOGY IN THEIR FIELDS OF STUDY. IN 2022 WE FOCUSED ON THEOLOGICAL TRAINING, DEVELOPING COURSES THAT INTEGRATE CHRISTIAN THEOLOGY AND OTHER DISCIPLINES, AND RESEARCH AT THE INTERSECTION OF ACADEMICS AND CHRISTIAN THOUGHT. WE SERVED A GROUP CONSISTING OF 25 FACULTY MEMBERS THROUGH OUR 2021-2022 COHORTS PROGRAM. THE GROUP SERVED IS INTENTIONALLY SMALL FOR THE SAKE OF HIGH INDIVIDUAL IMPACT.
LARGE EVENT SERIES - EVERY YEAR THE CENTER FOR CHRISTIANITY AND SCHOLARSHIP PRESENTS A LARGE EVENT SERIES THAT FEATURES CHRISTIAN PERSPECTIVES, OFTEN IN DIALOGUE WITH OTHER PERSPECTIVES, ON BIG QUESTIONS FACING HUMANITY AND SOCIETY. THE EVENTS IN THE SERIES TAKE THE FORM OF A LECTURE, A MODERATED CONVERSATION OVER AN ELEGANT DINNER, OR A PANEL DISCUSSION. THE EVENTS ROTATE BETWEEN BEING OFFERED TO UNIVERSITY FACULTY, UNIVERSITY STUDENTS, AND THE PUBLIC. IN 2021-2022, OUR EVENTS FEATURED TOPICS SUCH AS MORALITY AND RELIGION, CLIMATE CHANGE, CHRISTIANITY AND CONFUCIANISM, HUMAN DIGNITY, THEOLOGY AND DIGITAL TECHNOLOGY, AND THE CURRENT AMERICAN POLITICAL LANDSCAPE.
