THE MUSEUMS DEBATE TEAM PROGRAM WAS PLACED ON HOLD DUE TO THE LACK OF TRAINING SPACE AND ALSO DUE TO COVID-19. DURING THIS PERIOD, STUDENTS WERE INVITED TO PARTICIPATE IN A ZOOM SPEECH CONTEST IN MARCH, 2021. TWELVE STUDENTS SIGNED UP FOR THIS CONTEST. THREE OF THE TWELVE PLACED FIRST, SECOND, AND THIRD PLACE. AN ADDITIONAL TWO STUDENTS WERE ACKNOWLEDGED AS PLACING. SEE WEBSITE (AWARDS AND RECOGNITIONS). BOARD MEMBERS SERVED AS JUDGES. THIS WAS A MAJOR ACCOMPLISHMENT DURING APERIOD WHEN EVERDAY LIFE WAS AT ITS DARKEST HOUR; ESPECIALLY FOR YOUNG PEOPLE WHO WERE UNABLE TO GET OUT AND SOCIALIZE WITH STUDENT THEIR AGES.THE CONTEST GAVE THE STUDENTS A SENSE OF PURPOSE AND INVOLVEMENT AS WELL AS AIDED IN MAINTAINING READING AND SPEAKING SKILLS.THE KATHLYN JOY GILLIAM MUSEUM WAS SET ON FIRE IN 2020 AND AGAIN IN 2021.MANAGEMENT WAS UNAWARE OF WHO CAUSED THE FIRES. THEY WORKED DILIGENTLY TO RAISE THE NECESSARY FUNDS FOR RESTORATION.
