THE ASSOCIATION'S MISSION IS TO ENCOURAGE AND PROMOTE THE SAFE AND ENVIRONMENTALLY SOUND USE OF BITUMINOUS ASPHALT PRODUCTS THROUGHOUT THE STATE OF MAINE. THE ASSOCIATION IS AN ADVOCATE FOR A UNIFIED INDUSTRY VOICE AND PROVIDES A FORUM FOR ADVANCING TEAMWORK AND THE EDUCATION PROCESS WITHIN THE ASPHALT INDUSTRY, ITS MEMBERS' CLIENTS AND THE DRIVING PUBLIC, AND THROUGH THIS PROACTIVE PROCESS, IT PROVIDES THE BEST, MOST ECONOMICAL ENHANCEMENTS TO MAINE'S TRANSPORTATION INFRASTRUCTURE.

MAPA IS A STATE-WIDE ORGANIZATION THAT PROVIDES A UNIFIED VOICE FOR ALL ASPHALT RELATED BUSINESSES IN MAINE. THE ASSOCIATION HELD ITS 17TH ANNUAL PAVING SEMINAR IN BANGOR, ME ON APRIL 5-6, 2022. THIS DAY AND A HALF SEMINAR FOCUSED ON QUALITY, SAFETY, EDUCATION AND TRAININGS. INSIDE THE 26,000 SQ FT ARENA, WERE NEW ENGLAND'S LARGEST COLLECTION OF ASPHALT PAVING TECHNOLOGIES. AFTER NOT HAVING THE SEMINAR FOR TWO YEARS, THE INDUSTRY WAS EXCITED TO ATTEND IN-PERSON TRAININGS. THE EVENT DREW 390 ATTENDEES AND 39 VENDORS. ON DAY TWO OUR GUEST SPEAKER HAD THE GROUP IN AWE WHEN HE TOLD HIS STORY OF HOW HE WAS TRAPPED IN A BURNING PIECE OF FARM EQUIPMENT AND HAD TO CUT OFF HIS ARM WITH A POCKETKNIFE IN ORDER TO SAVE HIS LIFE. HE EMPHASIZED TO THE GROUP TO SLOW DOWN, DON'T TAKE SHORTCUTS, AND KEEP FAITH IN GOD. EACH YEAR MAPA LOOKS TO RECOGNIZE PROFESSIONALS IN OUR INDUSTRY WHO MEET THE HIGHEST STANDARDS OF EXCELLENCE. IN 2022, MAPA RECOGNIZED TWO INDIVIDUALS FOR THEIR OUTSTANDING COMMITMENT TO THE INDUSTRY. MAPA ALSO RECOGNIZED ONE INDIVIDUAL WITH THE 2022 LIFETIME ACHIEVEMENT AWARD FOR HIS YEARS OF DEDICATION AND HARD WORK IN THE INDUSTRY. IN NOVEMBER, 2022 THE ANNUAL MEMBERSHIP MEETING WAS ATTENDED BY 80 INDUSTRY FOLKS AND OFFERED AN OPPORTUNITY FOR UPDATES OF CURRENT ISSUES. THE MAINE TURNPIKE AUTHORITY AND THE MAINE DEPARTMENT OF TRANSPORTATION WERE ALSO IN ATTENDANCE TO GIVE UPDATES TO THE GROUP. MAPA AWARDED THREE SCHOLARSHIPS TOTALING 3,000 IN 2022. RECIPIENTS WERE SELECTED BY THE BOARD FROM A POOL OF QUALIFYING APPLICANTS. IN 2022, MAPA HELD A GOLF TOURNAMENT WHICH PROVIDED NETWORKING OPPORTUNITIES WHILE RAISING MONEY TO HELP SUPPORT MAPA EFFORTS THROUGHOUT THE YEAR AS WELL AS HELPING TO SUPPORT OUR SCHOLARSHIP FUND.
