TO PROVIDE THERAPEUTIC HORSEMANSHIP PROGRAMS FOR PEOPLE OF ALL AGES WITH PHYSICAL, EMOTIONAL, AND COGNITIVE DISABILITIES IN THE SIOUX FALLS REGIONAL AREA IN THE FORM OF HIPPOTHERAPY, THERAPEUTIC RIDING, AND GROUND WORK. CONTINUED REPORTED IMPROVEMENTS IN RIDERS' LARGE MUSCLE GROUP STRENGTH, FAVORABLE RESPONSE TO AUTHORITY, AND INCREASED SELF-CONFIDENCE DRIVE THE NEED FOR HORSEMANSHIP PROGRAMS FOR RIDERS WITH VARIOUS DISABILITIES IN THE COMMUNITY. HORSEPOWER IS THE ONLY YEAR-ROUND FACILITY OF ITS KIND IN THE STATE OF SOUTH DAKOTA, AND THE ONLY FACILITY THAT SERVES THE GREATER SIOUX FALLS SOUTH DAKOTA REGION. IN 2021, APPROXIMATELY 75 UNIQUE INDIVIDUALS WERE SERVED ACROSS 1,000 SERVICE HOURS. BECAUSE OF THE NATURE OF OUR RIDERSHIP AND THEIR CONTINUED FINANCIAL LIMITATIONS, NEARLY 65 PERCENT ON AVERAGE EACH YEAR REQUIRE SOME TYPE OF FINANCIAL ASSISTANCE TO PARTICIPATE IN THE PROGRAM, OUR SCHOLARSHIP FUND ENSURES THAT THOSE RIDERS WITH THE GREATEST NEED ARE ABLE TO PARTICIPATE. IN 2021, FUNDRAISING EFFORTS FOR THE SCHOLARSHIP PROGRAM RAISED 13,500 THROUGH COMMUNITY AND STATE GRANTS, INDIVIDUAL DONATIONS, SPONSORSHIPS, AND FUNDRAISING EVENTS.
