WE BELIEVE IN THE POWER OF FOOD TO UNITE PEOPLE AND TO LAY FOUNDATIONS FOR HEALTHY COMMUNITIES. GROWGOOD INC. (GROWGOOD) HAS TRANSFORMED A 1.5 ACRE VACANT PARCEL OF LAND ADJACENT TO THE SALVATION ARMY'S BELL SHELTER INTO AN URBAN FARM PROVIDING FRESH PRODUCE TO THE SHELTER'S KITCHEN; A THERAPEUTIC GREEN SPACE FOR SPIRITUAL AND EMOTIONAL HEALING; AND EMPLOYMENT OPPORTUNITIES FOR THE SHELTER'S RESIDENTS.

IN 2021, GROWGOOD AS AN ORGANIZATION CONTINUED ITS RECOVERY FROM THE IMPACTS OF THE COVID-19 PANDEMIC; HOWEVER, WE CONTINUED THE OPERATION OF PROGRAMS TO THE EXTENT THE SAFETY OF OUR PARTICIPANTS COULD BE ENSURED. ON A WEEKLY BASIS, THE FOOD FOR LIFE PROGRAM WAS HOSTED IN OUR OUTDOOR THERAPY SPACE. ON AVERAGE, BETWEEN 2 AND 10 PARTICIPANTS FROM THE BELL SHELTER TOOK PART IN WEEKLY OR TWICE WEEKLY SESSIONS. IN ADDITION TO OUR THERAPY PROGRAMS, FARMING ACTIVITIES CONTINUED WITH FRESH PRODUCE DONATIONS DIRECTED TO THE BELL SHELTER'S KITCHEN. UP TO 100 POUNDS OF FRESH PRODUCE WAS DELIVERED EACH WEEK TO THE KITCHEN WHEN COVID QUARANTINE LEVELS PERMITTED. SHELTER RESIDENTS WERE ENGAGED TO PARTICIPATE IN FARMING ACTIVITIES AS WELL WHEN QUARANTINE (CONT SCH O) PERMITTED.FURTHERMORE, COMMUNITY VOLUNTEER EVENTS WERE HELD ON A REGULAR BASIS, TYPICALLY 2-3 PER MONTH. IN 2021, HUNDREDS OF COMMUNITY MEMBERS VOLUNTEERED TIME TO PERFORM FARMING ACTIVITIES THAT BENEFITED THE BELL SHELTER BY PROVIDING A GREEN SPACE FOR RESIDENTS.
