FOUNDED IN 2009, WHOLESOME WAVE GEORGIAS (WWG) MISSION IS TO FACILITATE ACCESS AND AWARENESS OF HEALTHY FOOD CHOICES FOR ALL GEORGIANS IN NEED THROUGH LOCAL FARMERS AND COMMUNITY PARTNERS. WWG STRENGTHENS LOCAL FOOD COMMUNITIES BY EMPOWERING NETWORKS OF FARMERS MARKETS, FARM STANDS, BRICK-AND-MORTAR RETAILERS, MOBILE MARKETS AND COMMUNITY PARTNERS TO INCREASE ACCESS TO FRESH, HEALTHY, LOCALLY GROWN FOOD CHOICES. WWG CREATES ACCESS TO AND PROMOTES THE CONSUMPTION OF FRESH, HEALTHY, LOCALLY GROWN FOOD CHOICES IN LOW-INCOME AND LOW-ACCESS COMMUNITIES WHERE FRESH, HEALTHY, LOCALLY GROWN FOOD CHOICES ARE SPARSE, EXPENSIVE AND OFTEN-LOW QUALITY. THROUGH OUR (1) GEORGIA FRESH FOR LESS (GF4L) PROGRAM AND (2) GEORGIA FOOD FOR HEALTH (GF4H) PROGRAM MORE GEORGIANS GAIN ACCESS TO FRESH, HEALTHY, LOCALLY GROWN FOOD. GF4L IS A UNIQUE APPROACH TO CREATING ACCESS TO AND AFFORDABILITY OF FRESH, HEALTHY, LOCALLY GROWN FOOD FOR SUPPLEMENTAL NUTRITION ASSISTANCE PROGRAM (SNAP) RECIPIENTS IN GEORGIA. GF4LS GOALS ARE TO (1) INCREASE THE REDEMPTION OF SNAP BENEFITS AT FARMERS MARKETS, FARM STANDS, BRICK-AND-MORTAR RETAILERS, AND MOBILE MARKETS AND (2) INCREASE THE CONSUMPTION OF FRESH, HEALTHY, LOCALLY GROWN FOOD AMONG GEORGIAS SNAP RECIPIENTS. GF4LS EXECUTION IS SIMPLE: EVERY SNAP DOLLAR SPENT AT A WWG FARMERS MARKETS, FARM STANDS, BRICK-AND-MORTAR RETAILERS, OR MOBILE MARKET IS MATCHED DOLLAR-FOR-DOLLAR FOR THE SNAP RECIPIENT AND THE LOCAL FARMER OR LOCAL FOOD RETAILER. GF4H PROMOTES ACCESS TO FRUITS AND VEGETABLES AND PROVIDES HEALTHY COOKING CLASSES TO LOW-INCOME AND LOW-ACCESS COMMUNITIES THROUGH PARTNERSHIPS WITH HEALTHCARE PROVIDERS, COMMUNITY ORGANIZATIONS, AND FRESH PRODUCE RETAILERS. G4FH IS A PROVEN, EVIDENCE-BASED MODEL OF PREVENTATIVE HEALTHCARE WITH A DEMONSTRATED IMPACT, RESULTING IN HEALTHIER COMMUNITIES, FOOD SYSTEMS, AND LOCAL ECONOMIES.
