Describe the Organization's Program Activity:
Part 3 - Line 4a
A SIGNIFICANT PORTION OF OUR EFFORT IN INDIA DURING 2021 WAS DRIVEN BY THE COVID-19 DELTA VARIANT THAT DEVESTATED INDIA IN APRIL AND MAY. ALL OF OUR PARTNER HOSPITALS WERE CONVERTED INTO COVID-19 UNITS, BUT LIKE HOSPITALS AROUND THE WORLD, THEY HAD HUGE SHORTAGES OF SPACE, PPE, MEDICINES, AND MOST CRITICALLY, A SHORT SUPPLY OF OXYGEN. THEREFORE, WE PROVIDED FUNDS FOR OXYGEN-GENERATING EQUIPMENT CRITICAL FOR TREATMENT OF COVID-19 PATIENTS, ADDITIONAL HOSPITAL EQUIPMENT SUCH AS VENTILATORS AND PARA- MONITORS, MEDICINE, PPE, FUNDS FOR RESTRUCURING SPACE THAT PUT COVID- 19 PATIENTS AND HEALTHCARE WORKERS ON BETTER FOOTING, INCREASED INVESTMENT IN COMMUNITY HEALTH, FUNDED AN ONLINE PLATFORM FOR COUNSELING AND MENTAL HEALTH, PROVIDED VETERINARY ANTI-PARASITIC MEDICATION FOR OVER 1,000 ANIMALS ENABLING THEM TO BETTER REPRODUCE AND TO GENERATE MORE MILK WHICH EMPOWERED FAMILIES THAT OWN THE ANIMALS, AND WE PROVIDED FUNDS FOR CRITICAL EMERGENCY FOOD SUPPLIES AND DISTRIBUTION. SIMULTANEOUSLY WE INVESTED IN PROGRAMS THAT TAUGHT RURAL VILLAGE LEADERS TO IDENTIFY PROBLEMS AND DEVELOP SOLUTIONS,TAUGHT WOMEN HOW TO ACCESS GOVERNMENT PROGRAMS TO OBTAIN ASSISTANCE FOR THEIR VILLAGES AS WELL AS THEIR FAMILIES, AND INCREASED OUR INVESTMENT IN COUNSELING TRAINING FOR LEADERS, ENABLING THEM TO HELP DEVASTATED FAMILIES AND INDIVIDUALS. WE ALSO FUNDED 30 YOUNG WOMEN AND MEN TO ATTEND NURSING SCHOOL, THE MOST EVER SUPPORTED BY HIT, AND WE PROVIDED SMART PHONES FOR REMOTE LEARNING SO EDUCATION COULD CONTINUE WHEN IN-PERSON EDUCATION WAS IMPOSSIBLE. WE ALSO INVESTED IN PRIMARY EDUCATION THROUGH OUR PARTNERS WHO OPERATE MORE THAN 85 STUDY CENTERS SERVING OVER 3,000 CHILDREN, AND WHO RUN A HIGH SCHOOL STUDY CENTER THAT PREPARES 30 STUDENTS EACH YEAR FOR MORE ADVANCED EDUCATION. FINALLY, WE SUPPORTED AN ORPHANGE THAT CARES FOR AND EDUCATES APPROXIMATELY 20 YOUNG BOYS AND GIRLS.
