STEM DESIGN SPRINT WORKSHOPS - WICKED PROBLEMS IN INDUSTRY AND GOVERNMENT ARE THOSE IMPOSSIBLE, INTERCONNECTED AND UNSOLVEABLE CHALLENGES WITH DIFFICULT SOLUTIONS THAT AFFECT A HOST OF OTHER ISSUES. STEM PROS USE DESIGN THINKING TO UNRAVEL THE BIG KNOT OF A WICKED PROBLEM, THEN LOCATE AND FOLLOW ITS STRINGS TO ISOLATE MORE APPROACHABLE CHALLENGES. INSL DESIGN SPRINTS BUILD DESIGN THINKING IN A SCALABLE SYSTEM THAT TRANSFERS KNOWLEDGE AND NEW SKILLS FROM WORKSHOP TO REAL WORLD. WORKSHOPS HAVE BEEN PROVIDED IONE WEEK DESIGN SPRINTS IN THE DOMINICAN REPUBLIC, NAMIBIA, ITALY, TAIWAN, AND IN THE US. SERVED 250 STUDENTS DIRECTLY.
INSL COMPETITION - HARNESSING THE EXCITEMENT AND ENGAGEMENT OF GAMING, INSL INTRODUCES CORE ACADEMIC SKILLS, ENGINEERING, DESIGN, AND DATA-DRIVEN DECISIONS. CHALLENGES INCORPORATE CURRENT TECHNOLOGY, COMMUNICATION SKILLS AND THE INTERNET OF THINGS TO HELP TEAMS PRACTICE PRODUCT DESIGN, ENTREPRENEURSHIP AND PROTOTYPING FOR RELEVANT STEM INDUSTRIES. STUDENTS ARE MENTORED BY THE NATIONAL SOCIETY OF BLACK ENGINEERS AND OTHER TRACE ASSOCIATIONS AS WELL AS CLASSROOM TEACHERS. SERVED 380 STUDENTS DIRECTLY AT MIAMI MAY 2ND EVENT.
INSL CAMPS WERE PROVIDED TO OVER 3500 STUDENTS VIRTUALLY OVER THE SUMMER OF 2021 WORKING WTIH THE NATIONAL SOCIETY OF BLACK ENGINEERS, YOUTH GROUPS AND SCHOOLS LIKE WESLEYAN UNIVERSITY. STUDENTS USED A COMBINATION OF ESPORTS AND HANDS ON PROTORYPING TO CREATE A WHEEL AND PEDAL SET THAT CAN CONNECT A HOME COMPUTER TO ONLINE GSMING PLATFORMS. A NUMBER OF SCIENCE AND MATH CONCEPTS ARE TAUGHT THROUGHOUT THE EXPERIENCE. SERVED 3750 STUDENTS DIRECTLY
