Describe the Organization's Mission:
Part 3 - Line 1
BUILDING HEALTHY, SUSTAINABLE COMMUNITIES ONE BIKE AT A TIME. AT ONBIKES, WE ARE COMMITTED TO PROVIDING NEW BICYCLES TO CHILDREN AND FAMILIES IN NEED. WE BELIEVE THAT A BIKE IS MORE THAN JUST A BIKE. BIKES HELP BUILD A SENSE OF COMMUNITY, FOSTER RELATIONSHIPS, PROVIDE HEALTH AND WELLNESS BENEFITS, AND SERVE AS A RELIABLE MODE OF TRANSPORTATION. IT IS OUR MISSION TO PUT AS MANY BIKES INTO THE HANDS OF CHILDREN AND FAMILIES AS POSSIBLE.
Describe the Organization's Program Activity:
Part 3 - Line 4a
THE WINTER WONDER RIDE IS A HOLIDAY-THEMED COMMUNITY BIKE RIDE AND POST- RIDE CONCERT THAT SERVES AS ONBIKES' ANNUAL SIGNATURE EVENT. THIS SPECIAL EVENT FUNDS THE PURCHASE OF NEW BICYCLES TO BE ASSEMBLED BY COMMUNITY VOLUNTEERS AND DISTRIBUTED TO CHILDREN AND FAMILIES IN NEED DURING THE HOLIDAY SEASON. THE WINTER WONDER RIDE HAS GROWN FROM UNDER 100 PEOPLE IN ITS FIRST YEAR TO OVER 5,000 IN 2019. IN 2021 THE FIRST RIDE POST THE PANDEMIC WE SAW THE AUDIENCE RETURN WITH ABOUT 3,500 RIDERS.
THE ONBIKES ANNUAL BIKE BUILD DRAWS OVER 1,000 VOLUNTEERS TO ASSEMBLE NEW BIKES FOR AT-RISK AND FOSTER KIDS, PLUS FAMILIES IN NEED. TO DATE, OVER 10,000 NEW BICYCLES HAVE BEEN BUILT AND DISTRIBUTED THROUGHOUT THE TAMPA BAY AREA. THIS PROGRAM IS FUNDED THROUGH OUR ANNUAL SIGNATURE EVENT, THE WINTER WONDER RIDE. UNFORTUNATELLY, COVID CANCELLED THE EVENT IN 2020. THEREFORE, A SUBSTITUTE EVENT ANOTHER RIDE AND PARTY CALLED BIKESTOCK WAS HELD IN SPRING 2021.
THE ONBIKES BIKE SHARE INITIATIVE CREATES A BIGGER IMPACT WITH EACH BIKE WE GIVE. BIKES ARE DONATED IN FLEETS TO ORGANIZATIONS WHO PROVIDE HOUSING AND MENTORING PROGRAMS TO HOMELESS TEENS AND FAMILIES. THE BIKES ARE SHARED AMONGST RESIDENTS AND ARE THEIR PRIMARY MODE OF TRANSPORTATION TO WORK, SCHOOL, JOB INTERVIEWS, OR TO SIMPLY HAVE FUN.
ONBIKES IS RESTORING THE SELF-CONFIDENCE, HEALTH AND OVERALL WELL-BEING OF AT-RISK KIDS IN THE COMMUNITY BY PROVIDING BICYCLES TO FOSTER AND AT-RISK KIDS AS WELL AS SUPPORTING OTHER ORGANIZATIONS WITH ALIGNED GOALS.
