THE DIVERSITY PROJECT HAS INCREASED THE SIZE OF THE AFRICAN-AMERICAN AUDIENCE TO 20-30% OF THE TOTAL AUDIENCE. GRANTS HAVE BEEN PROVIDED TO AFRICAN-AMERICAN SINGERS TO MAKE PROFESSIONAL AUDITION VIDEOS AND FOR PROFESSIONAL TRAINING. THE AMOUNT OF AFRICAN-AMERICAN SINGERS AND ORCHESTRA MEMBERS HAS INCREASED AS WELL. HOWEVER, THE CROWN JEWEL IS THAT OPC HAS UNEARTHED OPERA MASTERPIECES WRITTEN BY AFRICAN-AMERICAN COMPOSERS, PERFORMED THEM, CREATED HALF-HOUR VIDEOS, AND ARE DISTRIBUTING THEM TO MUSIC PROGRAMS ALL OVER THE COUNTRY TO NORMALIZE THIS FORGOTTEN MUSIC. THE PROJECT IS CALLED "I, TOO, SONG AMERICA."MAY 2022: THE FIRST SESSION OF THE OPC OPERA ACADEMY WITH STUDENTS FROM THIRTEEN DIFFERENT HIGH SCHOOL AND MIDDLE SCHOOLS IN CENTRAL OHIO. THIS IS CENTRAL OHIO'S ONLY ACADEMY DEVOTED TO LEARNING HOW TO PLAY IN AN OPERA ORCHESTRA AND THE FINER POINTS OF PLAYING IN A PIT ORCHESTRA.THIS FISCAL YEAR SAW THE RETURN TO THE THEATER AFTER THE CHALLENGES OF THE PANDEMIC. THREE SHOWS COMPRISED THE 2021-2022 SEASON:NOVEMBER 2021: "TO SEE AGAIN THE STARS" - A PROGRAM OF OPERATIC FAVORITES CURATED BY OUR MAESTRO SICILIANI TO REFLECT THE ORDEAL WE ALL WENT THROUGH WITH THE SHUTDOWNS, THE ISOLATION, THE FEAR, THE DEATH AND ALSO ALL OF THE JOYS OF LIFE THAT WE CAN NOW CELEBRATE.MARCH 2022: "GREAT AMERICAN OPERA: MENOTTI AND GERSHWIN" - A VERY CREATIVE RENDITION OF "THE OLD MAID AND THE THIEF" INTERSPERSED WITH SELECTIONS FROM PORGY AND BESS AND FORMATTED AS A RADIO SHOW.JUNE 2022: "DON PASQUALE" - THE FINAL PRODUCTION OF THE SEASON WAS THE CLASSIC OPERA BUFFA DON PASQUALE BY GAETANO DONIZETTI WITH ALL OF THE BELLS AND WHISTLES.
