MEASURES FOR JUSTICE INSTITUTE (THE ORGANIZATION) IS A NONPROFIT ORGANIZATION WHOSE MISSION IS TO MAKE ACCURATE CRIMINAL JUSTICE DATA AVAILABLE TO SPUR REFORM. PROBLEM: CRIMINAL JUSTICE HAPPENS PRIMARILY AT THE LOCAL LEVEL, ACROSS 3,000+ U.S. COUNTIES. AS A RESULT: CRIMINAL JUSTICE DATA IS INCREDIBLY HARD TO GET, INCREDIBLY HARD TO UNDERSTAND, AND INCREDIBLY HARD TO USE. THIS IS ONE OF THE MAIN REASONS IT'S SO HARD FOR COMMUNITIES TO RALLY FOR CHANGE OR MAKE INFORMED DECISIONS ABOUT WHAT HAS TO BE DONE. (CONTINUED ON SCHEDULE O)SOLUTION: A WORLD IN WHICH THE CRIMINAL JUSTICE SYSTEM IS FULLY TRANSPARENT, ACCESSIBLE, AND ACCOUNTABLE.TO GET THERE, MEASURES FOR JUSTICE HELPS MAKE CRIMINAL JUSTICE DATA: - EASIER TO GET, - EASIER TO UNDERSTAND, - EASIER TO USE.MEASURES FOR JUSTICE DOES THIS BY PROVIDING DATA TOOLS AND SERVICES THAT HELP COMMUNITIES DRIVE THE CHANGE THEY WANT TO SEE. SOME OF THESE INCLUDE: COMMONS - A PLATFORM THAT ALLOWS THE PUBLIC, POLICE, PROSECUTORS, COURTS TO WORK TOGETHER TO MAKE CRIMINAL JUSTICE PERFORMANCE DATA AVAILABLE AS THE BASIS FOR INFORMED DECISION-MAKING. AS PART OF THIS PROCESS, COMMONS PROVIDES COMMUNITIES WITH A UNIQUE OPPORTUNITY TO SET AND TRACK CRIMINAL JUSTICE POLICY GOALS.DATA PORTAL - ONE OF THE LARGEST BODIES OF STANDARDIZED, ACCURATE, AND COHERENT COUNTY-LEVEL CRIMINAL JUSTICE DATA IN THE COUNTRY. THE PORTAL ALLOWS USERS TO COMPARE THE PERFORMANCE OF COUNTIES WITHIN AND ACROSS STATES ACROSS A SERIES OF MEASURES FROM ARREST TO POST-CONVICTION. THE PORTAL INCLUDES A GROWING NUMBER OF STATES, COUNTIES AND 45 MILLION CRIMINAL JUSTICE CASES - WHICH ALLOWS USERS TO GENERATE FULL COUNTY REPORTS AND STATE OVERVIEWS. DATA ASSESSMENT TOOLS - TOOLS THAT HELP AGENCIES GAUGE AND IMPROVE THE QUALITY OF THEIR DATA IN PREPARATION FOR GREATER TRANSPARENCY.CONSULTING - WE WORK WITH AGENCIES/OFFICES/COURTS TO HELP THEM IMPROVE HOW THEY COLLECT AND STANDARDIZE THEIR DATA BASED ON A SERIES OF BEST PRACTICES AND MODEL LEGISLATION.RESEARCH - WE CONDUCT ORIGINAL RESEARCH ON DATA TRENDS AND POLICIES TO HELP STAKEHOLDERS MAKE SMART CHOICESTHIS PROGRAM IS FUNDED BY CONTRIBUTIONS.
