TO ENHANCE THE LIFE OF THE SURROUNDING COMMUNITY THROUGH ARTS AND CULTURAL EXPERIENCES THAT EMBRACE DIVERSITY, FOSTER CREATIVITY AND BUILD COMMUNITY.

KENNEDY HEIGHTS ARTS CENTER PROVIDED A WIDE RANGE OF ARTS EDUCATION PROGRAMS FOR 1,520 YOUTH AND ADULTS, ON OUR CAMPUS AND IN PUBLIC SCHOOLS AND LIBRARIES. THROUGH CLASSES, WORKSHOPS, SUMMER CAMPS, AND ARTIST RESIDENCIES, STUDENTS LEARNED FROM AND WORKED ALONGSIDE PROFESSIONAL ARTISTS IN A VARIETY OF ARTFORMS SUCH AS DRAWING AND PAINTING, CERAMICS, FIBER ARTS, DESIGN, MUSIC, DANCE AND CREATIVE WRITING. KENNEDY HEIGHTS ARTS CENTER PARTNERED WITH PUBLIC ELEMENTARY SCHOOL WOODFORD ACADEMY TO OFFER A RIGOROUS, STANDARDS-BASED CURRICULUM ENRICHED BY THE POWERFUL AND EXPRESSIVE FORCE OF THE ARTS. KHAC COORDINATED ARTS PROGRAMMING IN THE SCHOOL INCLUDING: ARTISTS-IN-RESIDENCE, FINE ARTS FIELD STUDIES, AND TEACHER PROFESSIONAL DEVELOPMENT TRAINING IN ARTS INTEGRATION. IN PARTNERSHIP WITH CINCINNATI PUBLIC SCHOOLS, KHAC PROVIDED AN AFTER-SCHOOL JAZZ ACADEMY SERVING 120 CPS STUDENTS IN GRADES 4-10. STUDENTS RECEIVED FREE TRANSPORTATION, MEALS, PRIVATE LESSONS, ENSEMBLE REHEARSALS AND PERFORMANCE OPPORTUNITIES. HIGH SCHOOL STUDENTS COLLABORATED TO PRODUCE TELLUS ZINE, AN ONLINE PUBLICATION OF ART AND WRITING BY TEENS, FOR TEENS. ARTISTS-IN-RESIDENCE HELEN ATKINS AND WILL GEUSZ OF ALBUQUERQUE, NEW MEXICO LED COMMUNITY MEMBERS IN CREATING A COLLABORATIVE, CERAMIC MOSAIC, HIVE SCULPTURE EXPLORING THEMES OF COMMUNITY AND IDENTITY.


IN 2021, KENNEDY HEIGHTS ARTS CENTER PRESENTED 9 ART EXHIBITIONS IN ITS KENNEDY AND LINDNER GALLERIES, AS WELL AS AN OUTDOOR GALLERY. HIGHLIGHTS INCLUDED: AMERICA REIMAGINED, PHOTOGRAPHY BY PHOTOJOURNALISTS ACROSS THE COUNTRY DOCUMENTING DRAMATIC CHANGES IN DAILY LIFE IN 2020 AND BEYOND; A RETROSPECTIVE OF SOS ART, FEATURING ART FOR SOCIAL JUSTICE; UNCONVENTIONAL, DIVERSE INSTALLATIONS BY FOUR EMERGING BLACK ARTISTS; A CONTEMPORARY FIBER ART EXHIBIT BY THE KUUMBA QUILTERS; AND UNDERMINING SILENCE, NEW WORKS BY MEMBERS OF LOCAL COLLECTIVE BLACK ART SPEAKS. IN PARTNERSHIP WITH JUNETEENTH CINCINNATI, KHAC PRESENTED A CELEBRATION OF THE HARLEM RENAISSANCE, FEATURING COMMISSIONED NEW WORKS BY BIPOC ARTISTS AND THREE LIVE-STREAMED PERFORMANCES OF JAZZ MUSIC, SPOKEN WORD POETRY AND DANCE INSPIRED BY ARTISTS OF THE HARLEM RENAISSANCE.


IN THE SUMMER OF 2021, AS COVID-19 RATES DROPPED IN OUR REGION, KHAC RETURNED TO OFFERING OUTDOOR ARTS EVENTS FOR THE COMMUNITYWHICH WAS JOYFULLY WELL RECEIVED! KHAC PARTNERED WITH LOCAL RESIDENTS AND CINCINNATI PARKS TO PROVIDE PLAY IN THE PARK, A SERIES OF FIVE WEEKLY EVENTS IN KENNEDY HEIGHTS PARK FEATURING LIVE MUSIC, INTERACTIVE ARTS ACTIVITIES, SOCIAL ENGAGEMENT AND FREE FOOD FOR AREA RESIDENTS OF ALL AGES; AND HOSTED A FREE JAZZ CONCERT ON THE LAWN WITH THE CINCINNATI CONTEMPORARY JAZZ ORCHESTRA. DURING NOVEMBER-DECEMBER, KHAC SPONSORED SEASON'S GREETINGS, A COMMUNITY CARD EXCHANGE. RESIDENTS WERE INVITED TO PICK UP FREE CARD MAKING KITS AT KHAC OR LOCAL BUSINESSES, CREATE A UNIQUE CARD, DROP IT OFF TO BE DELIVERED TO SOMEONE ELSE, AND RECEIVE A CARD IN THE MAIL THEMSELVES.


KENNEDY HEIGHTS ARTS CENTER SUPPORTS AN ARTIST COLLECTIVE WHICH FOSTERS ARTISTIC GROWTH AND CREATIVE COLLABORATION FOR LOCAL ARTISTS WHO ARE COMMITTED TO BUILDING COMMUNITY.
