THROUGH FUNDING FOR LEADERSHIP PROGRAMS, EDUCATIONAL SCHOLARSHIPS, AND SELECT PHILANTHROPIC SUPPORT, THE FOUNDATION IMPROVES THE FRATERNITY, ITS MEMBERS AND THE COMMUNITIES IN WHICH THEY LIVE ACROSS THE UNITED STATES AND CANADA.

SEE SCHEDULE O.PI BETA PHI HAS HAD A FOCUS ON PHILANTHROPY FROM THE VERY START. IT WAS THE FIRST GREEK LETTERED ORGANIZATION TO ESTABLISH ITS OWN NATIONAL PHILANTHROPIC PROJECT WITH THE FOUNDING OF THE PI BETA PHI SETTLEMENT SCHOOL IN APPALACHIA (NOW MODERN DAY GATLINBURG, TN) IN 1912. TODAY, PI PHI'S FOCUS ON PHILANTHROPY REMAINS CENTERED ON ADVANCING LITERACY THROUGH READ>LEAD>ACHIEVE. TENS OF THOUSANDS OF CHILDREN WERE ASSISTED THROUGH PI PHI'S LITERACY EFFORTS IN FY21-22 THROUGH SPECIFIC INITIATIVES INCLUDING CHAMPIONS ARE READERS, FRATERNITY DAY OF SERVICE SIGNATURE EVENTS, ARROW IN THE ARCTIC, AND FDS500. ON JULY 1, 2013, PI BETA PHI UNVEILED THE STORY OF ONE, PI PHI'S CAMPAIGN TO IMPACT ONE MILLION LIVES THROUGH READ>LEAD>ACHIEVE BY ITS 150TH ANNIVERSARY IN 2017 REACHING MORE THAN 1,128,156 LIVES IMPACTED. THE LITERACY ADVOCACY PROJECT SUPPORT IS PROVIDED THROUGH GRANTS. PI BETA PHI FOUNDATION ALSO OFFERS DIRECT LITERACY PROGRAMMING GRANTS IN THE FORM OF LOCAL IMPACT GRANTS. LOCAL IMPACT GRANTS ARE MADE TO 501(C)(3) ORGANIZATIONS WITH LITERACY PROGRAMS VIA NOMINATIONS FROM PI BETA PHI CHAPTERS AND ALUMNAE CLUBS. PI BETA PHI FOUNDATION ALSO OFFERS DIRECT GRANTS THROUGH THE EMMA HARPER TURNER FUND PROGRAM WHICH PROVIDES ASSISTANCE TO MEMBERS WHO ENCOUNTER DIRE FINANCIAL NEED DUE TO JOB LOSS, SIGNIFICANT ILLNESS, OR DEATH OF A PARENT OR SPOUSE. ONE-TIME FINANCIAL GIFTS ARE MADE TO MEMBERS WHO DEMONSTRATE SEVERE FINANCIAL STRESS. GRANTS ARE MADE VIA A ROBUST APPLICATION AND EVALUATION PROCESS, UNDER THE GUIDANCE OF A SPECIFIC COMMITTEE TRAINED TO ASSESS INDIVIDUAL NEED. BOTH COLLEGIATE AND ALUMNAE MEMBERS ARE ELIGIBLE FOR ASSISTANCE.

LEADERSHIP PROGRAMMING EDUCATES UNDERGRADUATE WOMEN AND ALUMNAE TO DEVELOP THE NEXT GENERATION OF LEADERS EQUIPPED TO SERVE THEIR COMMUNITIES AND TO COMBAT ILLITERACY, SO THAT PI PHI CAN WORK TOWARDS ITS MISSION TO THE BETTERMENT OF SOCIETY. SCHOLARSHIPS ASSIST WOMEN IN UNDERGRADUATE AND GRADUATE SCHOOL PROGRAMS, AS WELL AS ALUMNAE CONTINUING EDUCATION AWARDS. THERE WERE 101 AWARDS TOTALING $251,100 MADE IN FY21-22. SPECIFIC PHILANTHROPIC PROGRAMS ASSIST INDIVIDUALS IN DIRE FINANCIAL DISTRESS, SUPPORT THE HERITAGE AND HISTORY OF HOLT HOUSE AND PROVIDE ASSISTANCE FOR EDUCATIONAL AREA GRANT PROGRAMS FOR SPECIFIC CHAPTER HOUSING, AND PROVIDE ESSENTIAL SUPPORT FOR PI PHI'S LITERACY EFFORTS, INCLUDING CHAMPIONS ARE READERS, ARROW IN THE ARCTIC, AND FIRST BOOK. LITERALLY TENS OF THOUSANDS OF CHILDREN WERE ASSISTED THROUGH PI PHI'S LITERACY EFFORTS IN FY21-22.
LEADERSHIP IS AT THE CORE OF PI BETA PHI, DATING BACK TO ITS FOUNDING IN 1867 IN MONMOUTH, IL. PI BETA PHI HAS BEEN A LEADER IN DEVELOPING WOMEN OF INTELLECT, COURAGE, INTEGRITY AND COMMITTED TO SERVICE. IT WAS THIS FOCUS ON LEADERSHIP THAT ENABLED PI BETA PHI TO BE THE FIRST GREEK LETTERED ORGANIZATION TO ADOPT ITS OWN PHILANTHROPY IN 1912. TODAY, LEADERSHIP PROGRAMMING IS A KEY PART OF THE MEMBERSHIP EXPERIENCE AT ALL LEVELS OF THE ORGANIZATION, FROM UNDERGRADUATE COLLEGIANS TO ALUMNAE OF ALL AGES. EVERY LEADERSHIP PROGRAM OFFERED BY PI BETA PHI FRATERNITY FOR WOMEN IS SUPPORTED IN SOME WAY BY PI BETA PHI FOUNDATION GRANTS. THESE PROGRAMS INCLUDE PI PHI'S TRADEMARKED LEADING WITH VALUES PROGRAMMING, CRITICAL CONVERSATIONS, LEADERSHIP ACADEMIES AND CONVENTION, ONLINE LEARNING, LEADERSHIP INSTITUTE PREPARING YOUNG WOMEN TO MAKE THE IMPOSSIBLE THE INEVITABLE, AND THE LEADERSHIP DEVELOPMENT CONSULTANT PROGRAM, WHICH LAST YEAR MADE 202 CHAPTER VISITS AND PROVIDED 1,768 INDIVIDUALIZED MENTORING SESSIONS. LEADERSHIP PROGRAMMING EDUCATES UNDERGRADUATE WOMEN AND DEVELOPS THE NEXT GENERATION OF LEADERS, CREATING IMPACT ON OUR COMMUNITIES, FAMILIES AND LEADING THE WAY TO FIGHT ILLITERACY. MORE THAN 13,810 UNDERGRADUATES AND THOUSANDS MORE ALUMNAE WERE TOUCHED IN SOME WAY BY THE LEADERSHIP PROGRAMMING OFFERED BY PI BETA PHI IN FY21-22.
